I was once told that my watch was for “old fogeys”.

Well… “old fogeys” sure have great taste.

I think it may be more accurate to say is that these watches were extremely popular with people who were young some 30-40 years ago and those watches ares still worn by the same people who bought them when they were young.

Thus, the association for younger people today is that because the young people who bought the way back when are now old, so the watch must be targeted at the geriatric crowd.

I didn’t wear champagne dial watches when I became a watch freak in my early twenties, and now I’m 48 and still don’t wear them. I don’t think age has anything to do with it. My taste hasn’t changed as I’ve aged.

I only speak for myself, of course.

While I don't own a champagne dial Rolex, I can appreciate them. YG is coming back in vogue per my wife. Many identify TT, Gold dial from 70's and 80's but it still is popular in the world just not as much on TRF.

Sorry to kill your romantic view that those who work within Rolex follow their hearts. They follow the money, which is data driven.

I think it’s fair to say that no brand does champagne like Rolex, and in fact many do not even try. To me, a champagne dial is a Rolex signature color.

I believe this is true. But it’s mostly due to the sheep mentality of most people and many still being rather conservative in their watch tastes, even if many claim to not be.

It’s why black is so common. It’s safe and goes with anything. Manufacturers know it sells and it’s a fair contrast with indices and lumes.

Make no mistake tho, a 2t Rolex datejust is on champagne is timeless and with a smooth bezel and oyster even very youthful.

While not champagne, I do own a TT RG DJ41 with sundust dial which is similar to champagne. Its a tad less yellow, and more of a sand color with a tiny bit of copper color thrown in - and the sunburst effect. The overall appearance of this watch is similar to the YG TT DJ champagne dial to the average Joe.

Not sure what the average age of TRF member is, but I am confident that I am under the mean age here. Don't really think that a color is geared to a certain age. The TT YG DJ is truly a timeless model. The basic design has been around for a long time, and there is good reason for that. The TT YG DJ (along with the black SS Sub) are truly Rolex icons that have been very popular in previous generations and will continue to be popular with upcoming generations. Some things never go out of style.

I got my first champagne dial watch when I was 27 years old and its my favorite watch in my collection. I am 35 years old now and I always get a kick out of wearing it, even 8 years later.

All the other dials in my collection are darker dials so in a way, after all these years, I find black dials to kind of feel plain looking now.

I may be against the grain here but I personally love my champagne dial Datejust over all my other watches and would never part from it.

My only complaint is that its not as easy to read the time as my other watches.

I have no idea, give me a minute, I’ll ask my one of my great grandchildren.
