I own a Datejust 41 with a 3235, and my particular example is quiet. In fact so quiet that I was afraid it wasn't moving at all lol. But it is. Perhaps I'm just used to my Breitling Superocean which has a Caliber 13 (Valjoux 7750) that is loud as all get out.

Oh yeah, the 7750 is loud. Mainly because it doesn't wind bidirectionally. It just spins like a lunatic to one side

If you are finding such problems then take the watch to Rolex Service Center

I dropped my DJ41 once and I thought I knocked something loose when I can hear the rotor winding, took it to RSC and 2 weeks later was told that the watch is perfectly fine. I had a sub with 3130 movement and I couldn't hear a thing

Think I can just about hear something if I hold the watch close and shake it. Definitely not an issue or problem in normal wear.

IMHO the reason the new movements have the ball bearing rotors instead of the old style is not durability but efficiency. In most cases, the old bearing overall seemed to last fine for 7-10 years until servicing and was in fact really quiet. But with the 32-- movements they were looking to eliminate friction and gain efficiency in every aspect of the movement, hence the ball bearings. They probably do make more noise. My Tudor Black Bay Bronze also has a ball bearing based rotor, and it is in fact noisier than my Rolex watches. I thought this might have something to do with the bronze case, but now I think it may just be the bearing design. And like the new Rolex movements, it has a 70-hour power reserve with a single barrel so maximum efficiency was a design goal.

Yeah, my ETA 2824 and 2892 based watches, which have ball bearing rotors, have always been louder than my 3135 based watches when moving around. Trade offs.

Uh, I dropped my 16014 on the carpet and apparently the rotor snapped and the jewel broke too. So looks like I'm getting slugged a good $600 for the repair.

Rolex 3235 movement in my SD43
Yes, I have rotor noise in my SD43 as well. It is also harder to adjust the crown into the first position to change the date. It's also harder to pull it out to the second position as well. My Explorer II and JC Deep Blue are much easier to adjust. I am taking it to my AD today to see what they say.

My 2018 GMT Pepsi had a pronounced noise. Never heard that in any Sub or DateJust I have owned before. I was like huh.
At first I thought it was the Jubilee bracelet, but then isolated the links. Yup it was the rotor. Upon more research it has to do with the new bearings vs. older bushing system. I have very sensitive hearing, as to where I can hear an ant fart so I was like OK, if that is how it is. Then stopped putting it up to my ear and shaking and presto, the noise went away. Watch keeps almost perfect time. About 10 seconds fast a month. Cannot beat that for a mechanical watch. |

Ive got a month old no date sub and its completely silent on my wrist. compare that with a JLC polaris which has a very noisey rotor. strange that some people report nose and other dont.
ive tried to make the rotor spin to here the 'whizz' sound but i cant |

I believe recent 32xx movements have had updates applied by Rolex, including a revised rotor with more ball bearings.
