Kermit worth the upgrade to Cookie Monster?
Mind you this is completely hypothetical, I'm waiting for a kermit, but have been seeing on the grey/secondary market for a Cookie Monster for as low as $35 w/o tax, which is significantly below what you would get at an AD. Given that, if you were able to acquire a green submariner at MSRP, would you turn around and trade it for a blue sub?
Of course you'd have to add up the difference in cash. So in this scenario, a cookie monster ($35k) minus kermit (~15k), equals about $20k cash. So total cost after initial purchase at AD then trade is $11.5 (kermit + tax) + $20k + shipping label = $32k. Compare that to buying straight from AD, that is if you're able to at MSRP + tax, you'd have to pay $43.5k. The downside to this is that you're just saving $3k by going through the AD at all. Might as well just buy straight from grey dealer? Apologies to whose who now think of me as a flipper, but just wanted to talk it out with fellow watch owners. |

Cookie monster will come down a lot more in price. I would say at least another 10k to fall.
I would buy the LV at msrp but wait a year to buy anything PM. |

Controversial opinion. You're paying a lot more for the same watch except for a metal that is pretty imperceptible to SS in terms of hue and color and it is a weaker metal that scratches way more easily. Do you prefer the color blue over the color green to make up for that?

Precious metal sports watches will still be coming down in price. Just wait.
To answer your actual question...I would not trade a steel LV for the WG 126619LB. I would trade for a 116619LB though. All day. I'm hoping the 116619 prices come down a bit, too, along with the others.

Had this same thought - decided to wait for now, actually thinking of the yellow gold blue sub as well.

I hope you're right. I'd buy one for $25k all day long. I do like the blue better than the green. I've never own a green bezel watch before. People say green goes with everything because it doesn't go with anything. I don't know if it's true or not.

Green has never been my favorite color, so I was cautious. Turns out it really does go with everything for me. That said I like blue more, that is why I was interested. The BLNR balances it out for me.

Pretty damn happy with my 116619 - wherever the price may go
I prefer having the blue dial, so I wouldn't do the trade. But if you like the blue/black then go for it ![]()

25k isn’t that far from 35k, especially in this falling Rolex market. If you can get the Cermit from an AD, do it and cash out and hold. Then in a year (if you can be patient) make your move.

If you can pick up the grey gold 126619LB for below retail - gently worn or new - I'd go for it!
But you'll need to have the center links brushed for it to be a proper Sub. "Because that's the law." |

I already have the Batman. But I don't think it overlaps the cookie monster.

Whatever saves you money to get the watch you want. I'd do. Call me whatever you like, wouldn't bother me and my new watch

On oyster or jubilee? Personal preference, but if you have the BLNR on oyster, I would stay with the LV. The Batman has blue, both has PCL, very similar in my opinion. I would almost trade the Batman in first considering.

Cookie Monster is such a horrible name. No one could come up with anything more befitting the watch?

I really like the heft and blue bezel. The understated PM piece.
I wouldn’t pay more than retail and agree waiting. Depends how much you love a splash of colour. Apart from the heft and subtle hue, glow of a PM piece, it’s a personal decision. PM pieces are not difficult to obtain so if you have the budget for it, you can think beyond a Sub. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |

I'm doubtful a PM Sub BNIB will trade for USD25K again but one never knows. If they do, there might be much bigger things to worry about in this world than the price of a PM watch.
You might be surprised what pricing an AD might offer you on a WG Sub in this declining market. I'd try really hard at an AD straight up before the hypothetical buying and selling scenario you outlined. FWIW, I love mine and I wear it most days. |

Having had the 116619 and sold it to add the 126619, I prefer the 126. I love the new dimensions. My 116 had diamonds so it wasn't under the radar like the 126. At times the surf blue was a bit much and love the AR coating of the newer version. No right or wrong answer, just preferences.

I honestly am thinking of doing this same thing. The pricing of the WG 126619 haven't move down as much (If any) from when this thread started.

I tried in a WG sub and hated it. I thought I would love it but didn’t like it at all. Didn’t feel special. Just heavy. Less comfortable and so stealth that it just didn’t feel special. Maybe I’m not a heavy watch kinda guy. I don’t think the thicker case and bracelet suited precious metal either. The daydate 40 felt lighter and more comfortable and more balanced to me.
I’d stick with steel professional series and steel larger watches like Skydwellers. Go precious metal with smaller watches like 1908, daydate, OP.

I actually prefer the LV over the WG Sub regardless of price or metal. So it’s a no for me.
