Yeah..saw that YouTube and left a comment a week ago. Marshall does some pretty good work too, imo for a so called 'novice'. Really like his commentary while working. Been watching a number of people who post some great work on some great pieces. Quite fascinating....

That’s truly amazing. I have a similar experience, albeit for much less time. My 1997 Daytona Zenith was worn non-stop until 2015, so 18 years. It wasn’t ever serviced and kept perfect time. Unfortunately, the pendulum balance bearings (autowind) perished causing the autowind feature to be erratic. I sent the watch to RSC only for that reason, not because it wasn’t keeping perfect time (it was).

They changed the entire pendulum and serviced the movement, I suspect as a matter of routine.

Saw this video as well. Can't get over the amount of CRUD in the bracelet, it's disgusting.

There was another video where the guy had left the sticker on the case back. It also had years of dead cells and sweat, crusted into a rancid paste.

I get keeping a watch for a long time and wearing it daily, but wash it once in a while maybe?

I see this on old guitars as well, Luthiers scraping off years worth of finger gunk out of the fretboard...

I can't see to find the barf emoji? oh well

Yeah, the gunk on some of these old watches is pretty gross. I just don't know how people can wear something that dirty next to their skin.

There are a number of excellent watchmakers and their vids out there on the Tube worth watching.. some pretty intricate with major services to bring some pretty beat up pieces back to their original glory.

True, but it's difficult to discern the date(s) of the previous service or services...if those markings are of the felt tip type. which first came out in '52.. Just sayin......

Thanks for sharing. Haven’t seen these videos before, but he’s a great story teller. Makes for a nice relaxing hour with a bourbon. The bourbon got me thinking - how cool would it be if Rolex video taped your whole service so you could watch what they did to fix it up afterwards? They would never, but I’d like it.

This supports the idea that people should only service a watch when it is not working right as the parts which wear, and break are routinely changed out in a full service anyway or are not expensive to replace.
