Milgauss now or wait?

From the first world problems file, curious about your thoughts on getting a Milgauss now vs waiting for potential changes/upgraded movement possibly announced next month. Of course, it could also be discontinued but my guess it will be kept in the line up.

I had registered an interest a long time ago and only received a text that from the AD that we 'may' be receiving one and am I still interested etc. My experience is that often means they are getting inventory and planning allocations but obviously have no idea. Also have heard that this watch is not produced in big numbers and that they do not get many in so a bird in hand now but I do think it could hit me if it does get the updated movement or other change and I might wish I waited.

I consider this an overlooked model with deep history and am looking to add it to my collection. Just wanted to hear your thoughts and if this scenario has happened to anyone here before with this watch or others. Cheers!

Nothing but enablers here, so if you’re looking for people to talk you off the ledge you’ve found them.

If you’re not putting yourself into any financial risks, I say go for it.

If they discontinue it you’ll be glad you did, and if they don’t, you’ve got a sweet 3-hander to enjoy.

These are surprisingly hard watches to get. You won’t get badly hurt buying at MSRP no matter what happens at W&W. If they discontinue it you may do very well. Most importantly, do you love the watch? If so it’s an easy decision!

It sounds like you’ll kick yourself if you don’t get it. But at least you have some ample time to really work through whether you want it or not and avoid that buyers remorse if you get or determine it’s a No-Go.

My inclination is to focus on what I want today, not on what I might want in the future, and to buy models that are in existence rather than wait and hope for watches which don't exist.

The Milgauss is a real oddity. It's pointless and the the Z Blue is a bit bonkers. This makes it highly desirable in my book. I like things that are a bit different, providing they perform their core function (telling the time).

If you really need the longer power reserve of the 32 based movement, I think it is more likely than not that the Milgauss will get it at some point, if it is not discontinued.

For now it seems like patience will reward you the most. But you can pay more and go grey any time you like.

Milgauss now or wait?

I didn’t like the MG at first. It grew into me after I saw it several times on my colleague wrist the last year. Got the opportunity to acquire a BlueZ BNIB a few month ago, grey supply, but fair priced.

Sold it a week ago (for same price) because I felt no love anymore after the honeymoon.
But it is and stays a remarkable watch!

Well, not entirely objective here as I am a long time 116400(GV/Z) wearer. I completed my quartet this week by adding the 116400GV with black dial.

All these variations wear and feel a little different thanks to their colours. The black dial / white sapphire is the most restrained while I'd say the Z-Blue sits on the other end of the scale. Having said that, I would like to do a little shout out for the white one: it's kind of cool with its blacked out white gold indexes.

TLDR: IMO you can't go wrong if you like this (somewhat) crazy reference.

Just bought the white dial after a long time contemplating. Incredible watch and should have purchased it much sooner!

OP
I think it also depends what is in your collection. It is a watch with no date so if you want a date, the MG does not do it. I own it, put a post recently on vacation in Punta Cana. The orange markers are unique as is the lightning bolt seconds hand, so you got to love these quirky features. The bracelet is comfy. So it depends what is in your collections already, as an example if I owned a Sub-no date, then I might pass on this. No one knows what Rolex will discontinue until they do so. Best kept secret in the world.

ps. Might get flamed for this… I do not like the z-blue dial, I like the black so I would go for the black dial with that cool green crystal, just my 2 cents.

This. If you really like it buy the current version. If it gets totally discontinued you will have it. If they release an updated version at W&W if you like it more you can always trade or sell current one to put towards it. To me it’s a win - win regardless of either choice.
