Condolences to the OP. I hope you get the watch back - and that there is justice.
Thanks, though, for an interesting discussion thread. |

San Diego police want to remind sellers to make sure they have a record of the serial item they are selling. That way, if they find themselves in a situation similar to Sammy's, they at least might have a way to track the item if it is stolen. The police are also asking anyone with information related to the crime to contact Crime Stoppers at (888) 580-8477. |

Having been in the market for that specific reference, I saw this guy's ad a few times. If I remember correctly he bought it gray and specifically stated he didn't have papers on it.

Correct, but it wouldn't surprise me if the seller that he purchased the watch from didn't have a record of the serial number. I believe it was from one of the Trusted Sellers on the forum. I saw one of them (from San Diego) lurking in the thread yesterday. Could be the same one he purchased it from as the OP did reference a subsequent conversation with the dealer he purchased the watch from about always knowing the buyer.

I fail to see how anyone can excuse crime and especially a premeditated theft such as this...blows your mind. ![]() This was not a random act and it certainly was not a loaf of bread.

Sorry this happened and I hope the perpetrator is caught. Any chance that this low life is using the same telephone number, e-mail address, or even name in other crimes? If so, they might be able to catch him by following his digital footprint, i.e. IP address, or reverse look up thru the different internet or cell phone providers. You know there are some really dumb criminals out there that get embolden by being able to get away with their first criminal actions. Wish you nothing but the best in getting this resolved in a timely fashion.

To each their own is right of course. But then again, people will continue to get hurt. Who knows, maybe one of these days karma may even catch up with that thief. And that can be ugly quickly as we all know. Hope the OP get his watch back and somehow the criminal gets caught and punished. Miracles do exist. |

The article said the watch was in a bag which was placed on the counter. Thus, the thief was simply able to grab the bag and run out. I understand the seller thought the doors were locked. I just never do that. I always keep my personal property in hand. If I try a watch on in a store, I never place my watch on the counter tray. I always put my watch in my pocket. I know the store's watches are insured for theft, but if a customer grabs my watch and runs out, I am just out my watch. It wasn't clear, at least to me, that the watch was just placed on a counter in the store and left unattended until I read the news article.

Never meet in person. Those days are long over. Hope you can recover the watch.

Sad to see. Most importantly you have your health.
If I recall correctly, OP noted that they sold the piece at a mask, which was a little surprising, given the market and price point, and a potential red flag Also, the dude who said you should have been skeptical due to the dreadlocks - extremely ignorant and out of touch.

Robbery Robbed of Rolex Day Date 40 228206 in Southern California
Quote:
Exactly. Imagine some of us with $200,000 insurance for $5000 a year. That’s a NEW stainless sport watch every two years for the rest of your life…. I rather get a new watch every other years ![]() I highly recommend storing your watches in different safety deposit, spread it around, and don’t put it all in same location. Always know your surrounding because we live among the thieves 🥲 |

Any news- seems like it all went away? Hope once we can get the word out and authorities know the serial maybe OP can also let Rolex know- can’t imagine he wouldn’t have done that immediately. Good luck OP and please keep us posted :-)

What logical reason is there to not share the serial number? Then again, sellers usually do redact them anyways…

Someone unsuspectingly is going to purchase or maybe already has purchased a stolen platinum Day Date. Someday it may turn up at an RSC somewhere.
Case closed for now. The criminal is working his next theft project with little concern for his freedom. I doubt SDPD is spending resources on this theft given the other crimes occurring on a daily basis. |
