FS: 2012 Rolex Explorer II 16570 Black Dial, G Series, 3186 Movement, Box & Papers
The Rolex Explorer debuted in 1971 as what is now a legendary vintage sports watch, the 1655. It offered a robust steel case, an easy-to-use GMT function with a fixed steel bezel, and a date. It made sense to develop that platform further as a specialized tool for "speleologists, volcanologists and polar and jungle explorers". Speleologists can spend days at a time exploring deep in caves and caverns, often losing their sense of time and of day and night, and the GMT function allows these explorers to keep track of 24-hour time with the fixed bezel keeping the setting secure.
The formula has consistently worked, seeing as Rolex continues to produce an Explorer II today, albeit in a more oversized and slightly "blingier" style. The Explorer II Reference 16570 is an under-appreciated Rolex sports model and a perfect example of the ethos of Rolex: creating tools best suited for specific jobs. The watch offered here is a G series, with a warranty card dated 2012, one of the final years of the 16570 and one of the few watches of this model with an engraved rehaut and the upgraded 3186 movement, which featured Rolex's new in-house Parachrom Bleu hairspring. It comes complete with the original inner and outer boxes, hang tags, warranty papers, booklets, and a great condition black and red Rubber B strap. Condition as follows: Case: Excellent condition 40 mm stainless steel case with only very light wear as shown in the photos. The no lug-hole case is extremely sharp with crisp edges and bright polished surfaces. The case features an engraved rehaut. Bezel: Original fixed steel bezel in excellent condition with the original sunburst brushed finish. Dial/Hands: Original gloss black dial and hands, free from any defects. Caseback: Excellent condition original caseback with minimal wear, a protective sticker is on the caseback as shown in the photos. Crystal: Original sapphire crystal in excellent condition - crystal has laser-etched crown. Movement: Rolex 3186 Automatic GMT movement keeping excellent time. All functions work as they should. Bracelet/Strap: Original solid end link bracelet showing only minor surface wear as shown in the photos. There are 12 links on the bracelet which should fit up to a 7.5" wrist comfortably. A Rubber B black and red strap is also included, which uses the OEM clasp. Accessories: Original inner and outer boxes, hang tags, warranty card, booklets, and booklet/card holder are included for a full set. Price is $8,800USD shipped insured FedEx overnight CONUS via wire transfer. US sales are preferred, international sales will pay the cost of shipping. Face-to-face in the Boston area is also welcome. I have many references available and have been active on this and other forums for many years buying and selling. Please feel free to ask any questions. I am mostly not interested in trades. Thanks for looking! |
