Cufflink Question
I found a vintage pair of cufflinks from my college, and I'm thinking of buying them. I've never had this style of cufflinks, and was wondering if anyone could tell me if they wear any different than the standard kind with a hinge.
Thanks. |

I once collected cufflinks and these are styled on the old Victorian push through stud type.
They are basically no different from the common T bar type and will cause a slight bunching of the cuffs. Buy them if you like them, but chain link always wear better. Regards Mick |

What's cool about these is that they have the old school crest. The crest changed slightly in the 1920s so these would be a great link to the past (see what I did there?). |

I like them. Bought some from Tiffany years ago (same style, not same cufflink) love them.

No idea how much these cost, but assuming they're reasonably priced I'd buy them for the nostalgia value alone. Even if they just sit in your jewelry box they'd be a nice reminder of your alma mater.

However, I know they were made before 1923/24 as that's when the crest was altered to what it is now and this has the older crest. Things from that era interest me, the interwar years where MacArthur modernized the Academy and guys like Eisenhower, Bradley and Patton were junior officers trying to make their way in the world. |

I actually prefer this style..
Generally has a more substantial feel than the standard t-bar type, and considerably less fussy than using the chain linked ones. As for wear, these tend to be less tight than the t-bar, but if a loose cuff is what you're after than classic chain links are hard to beat, and are considered by many to be the most elegant. |

Resurrecting this old thread, because I finally got the cufflinks I wanted.
I passed on the ones I posted about years ago because I didn’t want the stud type of cufflink once I knew that they had also made them in a chain-link version. I’ve been searching for chain link cufflinks with the crest facing the “sinister” side ever since and finally found some. Got them in the mail today! Crazy to think that these are at least 100 years old. The change to the USMA crest was made in July of 1923. Many people list these old cufflinks and date them in the 1940s, but everything that I’ve ever seen that was cadet issued from the 1930s and 1940s has the crest facing the correct direction. I love owning a small piece of West Point history dating back that far. “The Corps, bareheaded, salute it…” |

They look super cool Dave. Always nice to land something you've been waiting for a long time to find. The chain makes them very rare in my opinion.

I have always loved Cuff Links and wore them when I was a young man (50 years ago) but later in life I acquired these from my Grandfather who had them as a young man - so about 150 years ago. As I am long retired I don't wear business attire or evening dress any more but I still enjoy looking at these family treasures.

Those cufflinks will never work correctly because they're from West Point.
