Advise on serial number

Hi Guy

I decided to buy a new SS Sub or new EXPII. My question is which serial number i should get am a bite confused between the V Z M can you please help me ...Am buying it from an AD.

V is the most recent one, but the watches will be identical for all three serial numbers.

If you get an EXpy II with V and likely M serial, you might have the 3186 movement. No change within the Sub.

If you do a google search on "Rolex Serial Numbers" you should find several sites with the years for each serial number. As mentioned the V Z and M represent the last three years and its possible a dealer might still have an M for example that is brand new although it is not the latest year. So buying an M is not a problem except that if you were to sell it down the road it would be older on the resale market.

Rolex is always releasing more than one serial prefix at any given time..

They also release the individual numbers somewhat randomly..

Therefore, M and V are currently being produced side-by-side - there is no way possible to know which is newer than the other..

On some models, Z is still likely in the pipeline too......

These are pretty fast movers, so if bought from an AD, any of them will likely be brand spankin' new..............

I just bought 2 new TT subs with the serti dials one of them has an M serial number and the other a Z serial number. Should that matter? Should I ask the AD to find me a V or make sure both are V or M. Just curious, as I am sure they are both new, but what about value long term as well as any changes over the 3 years from the intro of Z until V?

Harvey, You should have started your own threat... this one may get lost because your issue is not the same as the title..


However, my view... There is no V series Serti Dial TT Sub... or if there is, it is so rare that you may wait a long while before one comes up..

The Serti is not a fast mover at all, and I am actually surprised that you found an M.

However..... do not get caught up in a serial number quagmire... those Subs are identical.

There is also absolutely no history that would indicate that a particular serial number prefix will be more valuable than another in the long run, unless there were something that made it so rare collectors would get excited..
