One watch, $6K, Advice??

Here's the deal, I have 6000.00 in cash to spend on a new watch. I had a Pam years ago and since then sold my watches to fund a new camera and apple laptop for lifetime memories of my newborn son (now 3). Well we are expecting another child in November but I have saved up around 6K for a one and only watch.

I need some help. I am a business casual engineer and prefer a date function. I know this is a loaded question in that to each their own. Any thoughts and pics would be appreciated. I have gone to local Ad but selection is minimal.

Thanks!!!!

Chris

I'm going to give you some varied advice since you are posting on a glorified "Rolex Forum." For a PAM, these guys gave you some pretty good advice above given what you're looking for. The 104 is functional and boasts the true Panerai DNA, while the 312 has the in-house manual movement. Try for yourself and see what calls to you.

I do love a Panerai on the wrist as there is nothing else like it available.

Now I don't know what other watches you've owned, but certainly don't discount a Rolex. You couldn't go wrong with a classic Submariner, or if you're so inclined, the GMT II C is now quite popular. These are solid everyday wearing timepieces that are lifetime purchases.

I wish you the best of luck finding your piece. Oh, and please post some pics after you decide!

312 or 111 if you want a Luminor, or maybe a 183 if you'd prefer a Rad?

I like PAMs very much. I do have a hard time getting the watch under my shirt sleeves and buttoning them up. So if you don't mind that, then most of the PAMs are good. If you like GMT or RDM, you can get a used one with bracelets for 6k I would look at my personal favorite 161.

Personally I can't pull off straps with panerain in business setting, but you may be able to.

I agree with the board, GMTIIC has good bang for the buck.

I saw the 2009 Omega Aqua Terra with chrono/GMT/Date on bracelet, quite a looked at 44mm. I may have a chance to fit it under my sleeve since it's got the thinner case.

Doesn't the 312 cost $7400? With tax it is almost $8000.

I'm not sure about price settling, unless you're talking about used and/or grey markets. I only see prices going up for Rolex & Panerai.

Just back from the AD and tried on the Daylight Chrono black dial, the 40mm gmt, and a few of the ferrari models. The chrono was really nice but I think I would prefer the ivory dial. Surprisingly I really liked the ferrari models. The Ferrari Granturismo Rattrapante was exceptional.

I strongly suggest 44/45 or 47mm,black dials,simple dial design and PAM,not Ferrari.Especially as a first PAM.

+1, stay away from the 40mm or Ferrari watches if you have even the slightest doubt and would flip the watch. They are much harder to flip than a Panerai would be and you would take more of a beating on the price.

I did get a chance to wear the 312 in person and it is a beautiful watch. I really loved it and unless something changes, that is the watch I am going to get. It is between that or a pre-loved 233.

I couldn't have agreed more. If it's only one I could own it would have to be a classic simple dial design PAM.
