Would you choose a 8GB iPod Touch or a Kindle 2?

Hey folks,

My bank has generously offered to gift some customers their choice of an iPod Touch or a Kindle 2. Which one do you think I should choose?

I love almost all things Apple, but I already have a iPhone 3G that I'm using as a defacto iPod Touch (moved to Canada, so cancelled contract with AT&T and didn't reup with Rogers). Does anyone have experience with BOTH? Any advantages of the Touch over the iPhone? Maybe battery life?

Anyone owns and loves (or hates) the Kindle 2? Why? How and where do you use it? Are there good free content available, or do you have to buy everything?

Any and all opinions appreciated!

Jay

Do you like to Read? Do you read quite a bit - Kindle 2 would be my choice especially since you have the psudo i-touch.

That being said though - both are easily sold... Apple probably more so..

I have an iPhone so I would choose the Kindle 2. The question is do you want to listen to music and have wifi (iTouch) or do you like to read books and newspapers (Kindle 2)?

I love to read, but I'm wondering how the reading experience is on the Kindle and how's the overall user experience (with the Amazon Kindle Store, etc.). I already have the pseudo touch, for sure, otherwise it would be an easy decision for me. Getting the i-touch would be a bit redundant... unless I drop my iPhone in the toilet accidentally or get it stolen, in which case having having a backup is nice :)

I have an 8G Itouch and love it! I only use apple lossless and find it has plenty of room for my music, apps and audio books. I like to change my play list frequently so large amounts of music always on my portable does not matter to me.
One thing, throw away the headphones that come with it, they stink! Invest in a pair of Etymotic ER6i's. You will be amazed at the sound quality!

I have a iPod touch, in fact I'm on it right now. The only advantage I can think of is that it fits in your pocket. Doublecheck me please but the Kindle will do everything the iPod will do + more. Also the kindle isn't limited to wifi.
I would choose the kindle.

I have owned the ipod Touch for almost two years and love it but I would at a minimum purchase the 16g model and buy a better set of headphones(Bose makes decent models). I also last week bought the new iPhone 3GS and thoroughly love it!!!

I don't have the iPod Touch (I have an 80G iPod Classic) but I do have the Kindle 2. I love it. As a reader, it's great. The print is good, almost book quality, and the font size is easily adjustable. You can bookmark pages, make notes, if you are so inclined, and you can take a multitude of reading material in one slim package whereever you go. Battery life is very good. I took it on a two week trip to Italy and didn't need to recharge it once. And I read three books on it while travelling.

There is plenty of free material you can download to it, although most of the stuff on Amazon is cheap enough (most books are under $10.00) and Amazon has a large enough selection, that I have not gone beyond Amazon yet.

The only minor downside is the wireless network (from Sprint) only works in the U.S. (maybe Canada, not sure). So if you intend to go offshore, download what you want before you board the plane.

I do love the fact that when I'm travelling, I can download a book anywhere in the U.S.

You can also subscribe to newspapers and magazines on the Kindle.

All in all, it's a great product. But it does have the downside that you no longer browse in bookstores to find that gem that you didn't know you wanted. But there's nothing to keep you from doing that, either.

You can load the Amazon Kindle reader software onto the iPhone or iPod Touch, making it able to consume content from the Kindle Store.

With that said, I'd go with the Kindle. It can also access the Internet via a browser, and you don't need to worry about finding a WiFi connection. Also, it will play audio/music, etc... via the headphone jack.

Kindle 2. I realize you understand it to be an apples and oranges comparison but the Kindle 2 is an awesome electronic book and the iPod Touch so only a so-so iPod.
