The dd is too similar to your dj. The daytona will add variety. The only drawback is the price at greys

I would move the sub towards a full PM sub (either black or blue dial). I think the TT DJ will make a nice “dressier” piece and the PM sub will be a hitter for the weekends. Watch collecting is a journey not a destination, so down the road you can always add a DD40 and have a hell of a trio. My knee jerk reaction is to move the TT DJ and get the DD40, but since you said that’s not an option because of sentimental value, my sub for sub swap is the route I’d go.

The gold Daytona isn't a watch, it's an event in the space-time continuum.

What a stunner!

If I had to do my collection over again and could only have two pieces, I’d keep a 5-digit sub and add a birth year gold Cartier tank

First solid gold piece for a 2 watch collection?

I’ve traded a watch that I swore I would have forever because of sentimental reasons. It was a gift from the buyer of my company. Meant a lot to me for many years.
I don’t care anymore.
I don’t think you’ll miss your dj if you get the day date. Which is what you really want. I think you’ll ultimately be happiest that route.
You’ll always know that the special to you dj helped get you into that and you can still appreciate it that way.
Just my 2 cents from my experience.

(Traded rg oyster flex ym for rg meteorite Daytona oyster flex)

if the DD40 is your grail then move the DJ into a DD40. don't go spending a huge amount of money just to have second thoughts

Agree that you should move the DJ41. How about you move both of them to get the Daytona, and eventually, once you recover, pick up a Day-Date to join it? I think that makes the most sense!
If DD40 is your grail, you're going to end up with it, and DJ41 to me would just feel so redundant.
DD40 and TT Bluesy wouldn't look too bad as a pair either!

I thought I was a stainless steel person. Had a SS Sub for three years and loved it.
Then I got a gold Daytona.
Now I think SS isn't me. SS is ... very rugged and ... hardy and ... tough.
And that's just not me. By a long shot.
I'm a gold person. Always was. Glad I had a few years in SS-land but doubt I'll return.

With regards to the YG GMT, if you’re referring to the new release on jubilee, I don’t know if I’d get one at retail price given how new they are and grey market prices are absurdly higher. I’ve seen an older GMT reference with the green dial which is stunning, but again, absurdly priced
May be different in the UK, but I think it's worth trying your hand at the new GMT GRNR, who knows...

If you were willing to go back in time (i.e. used, discontinued) to consider the green dial GMT, why not look at the 16628 (full PM YG YM40). Came with a blue dial option (deeper color than Sub) but a YG bezel.

This is the best route. You really want a DD40 which is amazing. Have had my dad’s for 3 days. It is like a souped up DJ but next level with the best bracelet and you get to have a sport model with the sub

I agree with this….but, I would buy the DD40 before selling anything and then over the next 6-12 months decide which one to sell. I know you’re wanting to keep the DJ but once you get the DD, that opinion could change.

My vote would be the DD or the SUB. Happy hunting.

I thought I wanted a gold watch and bought a YG Day Date but it rarely gets wrist time as I just find it a bit too flashy for me.

40mm YG DD would be the one.

Solid gold bluesy all day. Day Date is too dainty and Daytona on OF just isn't substantive enough. Want a mack daddy watch that still has street cred? YG Bluesy baby!
