Submariner to Sea Dweller

Hey guys!

I just bought a new submariner no-date last week. Only had to wait two weeks from my local AD! Lucked out.

I want to get a two-tone gold Sea Dweller next to wear on special occasions.

Do you think this would be redundant? If so, Daytona instead?

Thanks!

Welcome to the forum.

The Daytona is a completely different wearing experience and I’d consider it more of a special occasion watch vs the SD. The SD wears like a tank by comparison

Congrats on your Sub!
Not redundant at all. Both are divers but the SD is TT, bigger proportions, cyclops date, fully graduated bezel etc. would be a solid combo.

I’d go with the TT Daytona. They dress up well and I like the contrast with the SS and gold.
Also, I’ve found the Daytona to be one of the most comfortable watch to wear.

TT sub you can get relatively easy, a Daytona will be a different story. Set the right expectation and you won't be disappointed.

I think you’ll be able to get the tt SD quicker than the tt Daytona, if that matters. For a “nice occasion” piece I think the Daytona works better, jmho. (or dj?)

Depends what you consider a special occasion. You mean dress up occasion? If so, I have only a SD 43 SS, I would not consider it a dress up watch. It makes a statement due to its size. For me a special occasion dress up is more like a Datejust or Daydate.

I have a SD43 and a BLRO (similar proportions to the sub), the SD43 is great, wear it as my daily. If you're buying it as a special occasion/dress up watch, just be aware it won't fit under the cuff of many button-down shirts. I have a few that it can.

I'd say a datejust, GMT or Daytona would be a better option.

My take: getting a watch for "special occasions" is not the way.

Falling in love with a watch that is more of a "special occasion" watch, now that...is the way.

TT SD43 after a Sub ND is not redundant at all. The former is the perfect Friday/weekend watch IMHO, like most TT sports watches.

Not redundant in my eyes… as long as you are happy with your decision.
I’ve got a SS SD43 as a daily and TT SD43 for weekends, many would say that’s redundant but it suits me and I’m happy with my choice.
You should be able to pick one up from an AD with a minimal wait or go pre owned for below retail.

My take it to always wear your Rolex watches and make all occasions special.

Rolex divers are great. It would be a nice combination to own the SS Submariner and the TT SD. Go for it.

Congrats. Only two weeks wait is fantastic. Many are waiting a lot longer for this one.

Since the SD would be two tone I don't see it as redundant. Going to be a completely different wearing experience vs the Sub due to the gold and size difference.

Maybe a little redundant to the average observer, but not to a watch person.
That being said, If I was going to buy an SD, and I was drawn by the larger size, I probably would not keep the Sub. I also would go SS vs TT.
