For the past few months I have been researching and contemplating which Rolex reference/model I want to purchase. I am looking to acquire a new Rolex this week or next week at the latest. I have narrowed it down to a few models, 126610, 116613LN, 116622 rhodium, and the 18038. I really like all of these watches but would like to purchase only one of them. They all have pros/cons associated with them and I am having a good amount of trouble deciding which model to pull the trigger/focus my energy on. I have always admired the classic Submariner model since I was young, but see way too many of them today. I attend undergraduate college in the southeast US and many of my peers have 5 and 6 digit Submariner dates. I would like whichever model I purchase to be distinctive and ideally a little nicer than the ones possessed by my peers. Part of what makes Rolex special is the exclusivity and while I understand none of these models are particularly expensive, I would like to get the best model for my needs. For those that have experience owning these pieces, or could otherwise provide some much needed advice, your words would be greatly appreciated.
Settle full nothing less than a full gold Sub in that case. You'll knock their socks off!

Hulk. Rootbeer GMT. Any other GMT for that matter. The Day Date will take some getting used to but can totally work. How about one in white gold instead? Any of those should stand out from your friends.

Kids these days are adorable.

Thomas, if you don’t intrinsically know what watch you want then you are not ready to buy a watch.

Welcome to the forum.

You are a kid! Get a fun Rolex! How about a coral red OP, ala Tom Brady? None of your friends has it, but good luck finding one. However, sounds like you can go grey, since you said you want it this week.

Don't waste your time with a pedestrian Rolex. Set yourself apart from your college compatriots wearing their 5-digit Submariners. Buy an AP Royal Oak Offshore. For even better wrist presence, get it on a bracelet. That's distinctive and still appropriately youthful.

Just out of curiosity, what, exactly, is a pedestrian Rolex? I’ve never heard that terminology before, associated with luxury watches.

I’d focus on building up your credit profile while in college vs concerning yourself with a watch.

You want to hit the ground running and avoid being like many other graduates who lack credit history and miss out on investment/purchasing opportunities. Watches will be plentiful later on. (From someone not that much older than you).

I don't know why you need a watch nicer than your colleges/peers .
None of your listed are special except 18038 compare to your college/peer's , but you sure you like full gold watch ?
If you just want more special go for Omega or Pam or any other brands. If you want special and also hold the value move up to AP.

126610: an obvious choice, the blue pill. Sleep with the peace of mind you have what everybody else wants. Stay in the numbing and reassuring beaten path. Follow the herd and its leader, the social media influencer.

116613LN: an interesting choice, adds a touch of sophistication, goes against the tide, less boring, less conventional, you've not completely foregone your freewill.

116622: the red pill, step into another dimension, a world of connoisseurs who understand the subtleties and sophistication of an exquisite and elegant sports timepiece. Appreciate its rounded case edges and curvaceous lugs embracing your wrist to perfection. Enjoy the convenience of its butter-smooth bi-directional bezel. Admire the beautifully polished case. Most won’t agree with your choice but you don't follow the herd. Instead, you are your own boss and need nobody's validation and pat on the shoulder. You are now at the turning point separating men from boys.

18038: beautiful, but I'd wait a few years for that one. It's got a grandad vibe, you're not ready for it, don't try to skip the steps. More wisdom is needed, young man.

IMHO, YMMV

From someone who is a lot older than you, forgot what this guy said. You don’t need an “I love debt” (FICO SCORE). Just keep saving and paying in cash. Trust me as someone who didn’t find this out until later in life. Stick to the no credit card life. Debt is no fun.

i hate to go off topic but this is such bad advice that i had to comment. credit scores matter a lot when you're young because you'll even run into issues with renting apartments with a bad score or no credit history in competitive markets. no one here is saying debt is good or even to buy a rolex on a credit card, but you need to have good credit for many things in todays world when you're starting out. there's nothing wrong with credit cards if you use them properly because they'll just give you free money in cash back

simply telling someone "just save more bro" is such an ignorant comment in todays financial climate where salaries don't go nearly as far as they used to and when directed at people just starting their adult lives. most people already come out of college with huge debt thanks to schools costing tens of thousands a year anyway

Where did I say take on long term debt? You can still build up credit and pay things off in full. Read Huncho's post as it seems you lack financial literacy.

If OP does things right, he won’t have to wait till he’s 50 to have a Rolex.

100% spot on. I wasn't going to reply to his comment but this nails it.

Seems others just like staying behind the curve in life.

Agree with this. In absolutely no way is a DD an old man watch…I think that comment comes from people who can’t afford one to be brutally honest.

I’d also focus less on trying to flex on others but you’re in that age group and I get it….you’ll eventually grow out of that and realize the way to go is to buy what you actually like.

I really respect the honesty in the OP question. It's an accurate reflection of current motivations for many to acquire Rolex, combined with a nice knowledge of specific models that are of interest.

Following this mantra "Rolex is the best and having the best Rolex amongst my peers makes me the best" . The choice should be a Daytona...SS, YG, RG, WG, PT will all do the trick.

They are perceived to be much more exclusive than submariners, which, in turn, requires more means to acquire one. Ownership of one will prove your point much more than a pedestrian Sub. Those Plebians don't have a chance...

To be fair to Easy E, I don’t think he was trying to say that YOU are buying your Rolex on credit because of TikTok, but rather that the reason your initial concern exists (lots of fellow students running around campus with 5 and 6 digit submariners) is because of credit usage and social media.

To answer your initial question, why not get a GMT? It’ll set you apart from all the sub wearing folks on campus and still giving you something sporty a younger person can wear easily. I was broke in my college years but if I had the money then I’d have loved a Rolex GMT!

No one in college should be wearing a Rolex.

Wait until you have achieved something then buy one.

I went for a walk yesterday wearing my BLRO. Does that count? Or is that a pedestrian's Rolex as opposed to a pedestrian Rolex. None of mine have feet, just hands.

Times have indeed changed. When I was studying, I had a Casio. Cost me £30 which was a whole Saturday’s work at the time. £3.82 an hour for 8 hours.

I’d get a sub or Explorer II if you want to be different. I think I’m too young for a datejust and I’m guessing you’re 20-25 years younger than me.
