Icon20 1978 Rolex Perpetual Oyster 14K Gold with Tiffany and Co. dial

New here, first post:

What are y’all’s thoughts on this particular watch? Particularly interested in value guesstaments and the Tiffany and Co. dial, if I were to send it in for servicing do you think Rolex would want to replace dial face?

I’m a little concerned about the area between 8th and 9th hours, just to the edge of watch face outside of second markers.

Thanks I’m advance!!!!

More specifically, I’m wondering about area from about 42min/second marker until about 47

Thanks!

Do you know that this is a small ladies' watch? Value ... not much. Tiffany printing not very convincing. As you noted, the dial is damaged, but these really aren't too collectible anyway, so if Rolex replaced the dial, it would probably be for the best. The problem is ... who will pay to have it serviced by Rolex?

Yes, was thinking about it for my wife. I know she would prefer it if it had the Tiffany Dial, if they would replace it I likely would just stay away and get her something else. I would have imagined they would have been a touch more sought after considering this collaboration will likely never happen again.

Dan S, could you elaborate on the Tiffany printing not being very convincing, What do you mean by this exactly? I’m curious and very new to the world of watches

Any other thoughts? How much would be to much to pay for this timepiece?

The Tiffany printing looks uneven and cockeyed. Anyone could have printed that at any time. The dial is damaged at the edge. I don’t see the appeal tbh. But if you can get it for near melt value, it's a safe purchase.

This is sound advice
The Tiffany logo it would seem is not straight unless I’m not looking at it right

Thank you all for your assistance, I greatly appreciate it. It would seem the consensus is the watch face has been refinished and or tampered with at some point. I believe I owe y’all one for saving me from this one. Im learning tho!

Just out of curiosity, is there a way to estimate the precious metal weight of a watch, say subtracting a known weight of the oyster/timekeeping components?

If it’s real you will need B&P’s to sell it later

There are many who have done that but I haven’t seen it done with a ladies model. It will surprise you how little gold weight is in the case. The bracelets far outweigh them.

The melt value is the only reason to need the info and that’s far less than the resale value of a complete Rolex.
