Vintage Servicing Daytona 6263
Evening folks
Apologies in advance if this info has already been asked. I'm looking for an experienced watchmaker to service my Daytona. Been quoted a few silly prices already. Appreciate its an older watch but 2k plus VAT nearly made me faint and that's before any remedial work. The dial is in good nick but I've lost 2 luminous dots that need replacing. Any recommendations greatly appreciated. I'm in Surrey. Thanks in advance. |

Nice reference, OP. I have qualified watchmakers here in the US but TBH no one I know would service the 6263 for under USD 1500.00 and that's if no major part replacement is needed.

Vintage Servicing Daytona 6263
My buddy has a 6263 that he just got back from service and it cost him $5k. No clue what was done.
I have a hard time imagining a service on that reference for under $1500 or so. I know nothing though. LA Watchorks in Pasadena, CA always gets spoken of highly here for servicing vintage. Fyi Would love to see a pic of your Daytona….. Edit: just realized your across the Pond. Sorry for recommending a U.S. based service business. Realize that isn’t going to help you. OP you have one of the most desirable watches in the collecting world. Cutting costs could devalue your incredible watch. Reluming or any cosmetic work on the dial will cause the value to drop, but if it's a watch you love & wear, then go ahead. Very occasionally dials do come up (I believe there may even be luminova ones). As above Bill Rice is highly thought of & Steven Hale.

Obviously any 6263 dial will require careful attention and is not cheap.
Agree with not taking shortcuts on repairs by qualified reputable watchmakers. But if you have a factory Big Red dial or a Paul Newman dial they certainly are insanely expensive and a touchup may be a huge value hit.

Steve Hale (SHWR) South Hertfordshire - also the best ;-)
He specialises in restoration as much as servicing. Has many 9 foot tall and 8 foot wide machines and bars and sheets of brass and metals and I have ABSOLUTELY no idea how they work.... but he manufactures tiny parts for eg obsolete calibres, bracelets etc...etc...and RSC London send tricky stuff they can't do to him.
