For people with an average risk, they are just O.K., in my opinion. but they do produce 13% false positive results, and 8% false negative results. Follow your Doctor’s advice regarding if the at home test is the best way to go, given your personal and family medical history.

Thanks, Kat. I just turned 51 and will be scheduling an appointment with my family doc soon for an annual physical, blood work, etc…

While there, if your Doctor doesn’t bring it up, make sure you do. You are past the age when the Medical establishment suggests to start Colon CA screenings. They moved the age, when you should start being screened, up to 45 years, presumably because men and women in their mid to late 40’s were dying from this disease. Also ask if a cardiac stress test is in order. What I noticed during my career as an oncology nurse, was that men were diagnosed more frequently, than women, with colon Cancer. Food for thought.

I have posted this to another such thread in the past, but I always schedule mine for midday. Prep the night before from 4PM-8PM/10PM, get a good night's sleep, a bit more prep in the morning, and off the GI, who puts me out for good measure. Funny how you memory of the day fades later in the evening when it wears off. Very good advice not to do work email until the day after.

Always see the stories on the prep. My doc recommends 2 Ducolax tablets to start, a container of Miralax mixed with 64 oz Gatorade for the main event, then a 10 oz bottle of magnesium citrate in the morning. Prep is a breeze, so to speak. Don't understand using some these other concoctions that are reported to be unpleasant. Dietary restrictions for a couple of days ahead of time helps a lot. The doc I go to invented one of the instruments used for these things, so trust him implicitly.

And the procedure clips out the bad stuff that can kill you, which needed to be done several times in my case. An examination and prevention at the same time. FWIW.

Just got home. Doctor removed 2 polyps, he said they would be sent to a lab for analysis. I was given Propofol, and I was out 15 seconds after administration. They woke me after it was complete, about 30 minutes or so. It was easier than I expected, just as everyone said it would be. The doctor said I should have another exam in 5 years because of my family history and the discovery of the 2 polyps. Thanks everyone!

Glad to hear it was routine. A good message for anyone fearing the procedure. Don't do any work email until tomorrow, trust us.

Get them annually now and they still take out multiple numbers of polyps.
Wow, we're definitely in the polyp removal horse race.

I'll go online tonight and look at the GI notes to see what my overall count is.

I'm not really fond of the prep or the procedure, but as long as they are found and removed early, I'm as pleased as punch to go in and get it done.

Glad it went well, Ron. I had my last one quite recently, and no polyps this time.I did have 2 polyps the time before. Anyone else reading the thread, who is at least 45 years old, and has not had this procedure done, please ask your physician at your next check up, whether or not you should be scheduled for this very safe CA screening test. Also ask about a cardiac stress test. Heart disease remains the number one killer of both men and women. I sincerely care about your health. Thank you.

Ok, the prep sucks. Under anesthesia, who cares what they do. Once the polyps are out, they can’t develop into cancer. This is a winner among medical procedures.

This is going to take more time than I anticipated, but I did find a short cut. Instead of scrolling through all the notes from every practitioner, I can just narrow it down to lab result.

I just figure that out, so I think I can accomplish that over the weekend.

I'm very interested in the results myself and no, this is not some kind of perverse "pissing contest."
