Datograph owners past and present: wearability? - gen 1 403.035
Hi all,
Thinking about adding a gen 1 Datograph 403.035 in platinum. Is it wearable for regular wear? I have a white gold Lange 1 that I love and find it extremely wearable, almost as a daily. Don’t necessarily need to trade it for one, but probably would to not keep two Langes in a small collection. Any experience you can share about this watch would be appreciated. FWIW - not looking for a safe queen. I want to wear the watch regularly. |

Some people say the 1815 Chrono is a better wear, but I've never had one on in the flesh. |

I had the Gen 2 on my 6.5 wrist and it wore fine. Most people say the newer model balances better due to its bigger size 41 from the 39. By far the Gen 1 is the most popular model of the two, so good choice there.

Gen 2 from anyone I know who has one including me is a perfect piece for regular wear.
I’ve heard gen 1 is a little less so but I’m sure it’s fine |

It’s totally wearable routinely. Yes thicker but that’s what it is. It’s not a classic thin dress watch but that’s the beauty of the design and technical mastery.

Hi Ive had the 403.035 for nearly 3 years and I LOVE IT, the diameter of the watch is great but the thickness it high, I dont have the Lange 1 but ive tried it a couple of times and it wears very similar. The first couple of days when it started wearing the DATO felt differently but you get used to it.
I wear the watch regularly and I ve taken it on long trips also without issue, the only downside is the service I just sent it and its gonna take like 7 months and more than $5k to service it which of course sucks!!! Hopte this helps! |

Yeah it’s thicker and heavy being platinum. You do wear the watch snug (not loose); so you can prevent the watch from moving around. I will wear it regularly and bring it to international trips. I love mine. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |

My wrist is thin (6"/154mm), and I have a Gen1 Datograph 403.041. My preference is for Gen1 over Gen2, but of course both are fantastic.
I've worn it on a strap and a bracelet. It's fine for daily wear, though if I were to choose one Lange for daily wear, it'd be a Lange 1 rather than a Dato. I mention that because you said you have a Lange 1 that you were thinking about letting go of. People often mention the thickness of a Gen1 Dato as being problematic. I never had an issue with this. It's totally comfortable, and I have bigger, thicker, heavier watches that are also comfortable. I find that as long as the strap or bracelet is adjusted properly, just about every watch is comfortable. And I know your Dato (platinum) would be heavier than mine in gold, but I've worn the platinum Dato Gen1 and it was fine re comfort. I'd suggest wearing it with a Lange deployant, though. Good luck with your decision! |

I think most prefer the gen 1 to gen 2 unless you have the wrist size for a +40mm watch.
I went with the 1815 chrono because of thickness, which matters a great deal to me for wearability and already have a L1 so didn't need the big date function. |

Gen 1 is very wearable- you just might not be able to button a slim dress shirt cuff. I went with a Lange 1 as my almost daily, but could have easily gone with a Dato.

I love the Dato gen 1 even if the Lange1 is the Lange I own.
Sure 12,8 is a bit thick. But remember how everyone tells us how slim the Daytona is at 11,9mm. (sure manual vs auto) but its a city in 3D to observe on the Dato. |

I had both and the lange 1. The lange 1 is the most wearable, I found the dato 1st generation too thick for its size, top heavy.
