Submariner Ref. 5512 -- What's the catch?

Hi guys,

Came across this piece and I'm wondering if it checks out.
  • Ref 5512
  • 579xxx serial (1960)
  • Radium gilt dial

Dial looks correct and nicely aged. Unsure about the bezel insert... possibly newer.

What are your thoughts on the case? Caseback engraving looks good, but over on WUS it's been suggested that the midcase looks wrong: too chunky at the lugs. Also no pointed crown guards.

Working on getting better pics of the engravings between the lugs, but here are some images to kick the analysis off.

sing an Imgur link because it doesn't like the file size when trying to attach them!

You repeated the same images twice. No dial or insert pics came through

Much wrong here. I wouldn't recommend it.

My feeling is that this watch has been put together from several different watches parts and pieces to arrive at a single piece to sell.

It could be a perfectly usable watch but should be approached with a sharp eye and realistic expectations.

So how did the OP come to show photos of a different watch from the front vs. the case-back / movement photos? Supposedly the watch was for sale in a local thrift store, and it seems unlikely that a thrift store would engage in that kind of monkey business.

Perhaps the OP would like to explain the origins of the photos?
