FS: Rolex Explorer II 16550 Box & Papers

Hi,

I'm pleased to offer a Rolex Explorer II 16550.

The 16550 has always been one of my favorites. Made from roughly 1984 to 1989, this transitional reference bridges the gap from 1655 to 16570. It shares the same thick case and 3085 movement as the GMT 16760, and features a bolder, more squared off bezel font than later Explorer II's. Then of course, there are the dial variations.

This one is in excellent condition. R serial dates it to approximately 1987. It has a white tritium dial with painted black indices and hands, and open 6 and 9 date wheel. When I bought it, the second hand was a Luminova service unit. I sourced a correct tritium second hand and had it installed. No additional work was done. Bracelet is 78360 with L clasp code and 501B endlinks. If it's been polished in the past, it's been done well. Timekeeping is good, though service history is unknown.

As you'll see in the photos, it comes with boxes, punched papers, booklets, 1988-1989 calendar card, and Rolex Service Center card from 2011.
