So…new tighter rules about a team petitioning for a review planned for 2024. Thank you Haas - now the results will truly be final sooner.

FIA will modify the regulation in the ISC:
- A fee will be levied
- Time period to petition limited to 4 days.

Although it was in the works before last week, Guenther nailed that case for officials.

Vegas, an F1 race, (sans jeopardy)....or just an F1 'Trade Show'?
How are the ticket sales going?

Not good. The price of tickets, hotels and everything else is in a free fall. As an example, prices on the LV Strip have fallen 50-70%, off Strip, up to 90%. The forecast for rain and cold weather may be an issue, but IMO, F1 priced everything way too high. You can go to 3 races in Europe (Zanfoord, Monza and Spa) for the price in Las Vegas. Unlike other races, F1 is the actual promoter of this venue so we'll see how it goes.

You are right - it’s surprising to me that they lost the point of racing.

If they want this product (the LV race itself) to thrive at the site, they have much work to do before the 2024 version.

The budgeting is what drove the prices - F1 has built multiple multi-lane temporary overpasses to route vehicle traffic over the circuit. And they still created havoc for the casinos, their workers and the patrons. The event costs spiraled as factors beyond their control came to bear.

The weather is going to cause some sparsely populated open grandstands. I am concerned it will also impact the quality of racing. Can you imagine a repeat of the Spa debacle?

If I had a wand, I’d shift the entire schedule by 12 hours into the daylight. No night racing this year. But I can imagine why they thought night was a good idea - hubris. Can you imagine Monte Carlo being run at night?

I believe it’ll be a net loss in red ink for LV, but the other fees from the teams and organizers throughout the year should keep the F1 public company in the black on the 10-K. The quarterly 10-Q report might be flat or a loss.

You're right Paul. I was in Vegas in late September and they were already constructing the lighting for the Strip and huge metal frames in front of the Bellagio lake. Had no idea what it was at the time, but apparently they're grandstands. The level of labor to construct, deconstruct the track as well as the paddock to say nothing of the road resurfacing, is simply mind blowing.

As a bean counter, I can't imagine what the loss will be this first year when you factor in not only the race prep, but the initial land buy of 39 acres and then construction of the paddock. If this race is still in place in 10 years, perhaps they break even.

All that said, the locals are not happy about F1 being an interruption to their town for months at a time. Vegas really doesn't need F1.

10000000000000% agree

Plus being a first-year event and everything being new, daylight adds major safety benefits for ALL involved. Untested surface, untested track, untested pit area, untested........ day light would be the right thing to do, plus there's Tyre considerations....

Must say, the very hi-tech show last night with music and entertainment was very impressive. The tech, stage crew teams, and creatives deploayed an amazing opening show in Vegas. It definitely sets the stage for future entertainment and sports events.

What was amazing to me was their ADR in live-to-tape post-production.

The dialog replacement being the audience audio.

And such a nice audience…always cheering at just the right time, and fading to respectful listening, and then nary a “boo” for drivers, and always the same level of cheering for each and every team and driver despite their points standing…

Was anyone plasticized by the addition of digital plasticizers?

Here in Europe, we think that since both championships have been decided a long time ago, so you don't really find this competition exciting in LV! Bringing an uninteresting race to LV, which disturbs gamblers in their enjoyment: I don't think it was a good idea in itself.

You know what? Yes! I think, MC would be an ideal place for a night ride, because this could add something interesting for that boring racetrack. Exactly that would be an ideal night-compatible racetrack.

Cringeworthy event.
Now all we need is camera time from some uninterested celebs checking out their phone.
Only chance to escape the nonsense is start watching at the formation lap and switch off after the checkered flag.

A Vegas race was always going to be over the top, but because both championships have already been decided, teams are not bringing upgrades and it's the end of the year, Vegas had to be over the top to keep people's interests. I'm keeping an open mind on this event until the very end, but my gut feeling is that it will be a _hitshow.

Great observation here. The season is more-or-less over. There's no way a Vegas GP could be as "normal" as say the Canadian or German GPs. It just has to be a gauche, excessive & opulent display. It really seems like a last ditch effort to keep American fans interested, as we are between "Drive to Survive" seasons!

And there I was trying to be kind. Of course it's highly-produced, well-polished entertainment. But hey, admire the IP lighting system, the 3D screens / boxes, etc. There was quite a bit of the latest entertainment tech being sync'ed up. No way to do that just a handful of years ago.

Forget the drivers and teams, thank the stage crew and tech engineers.

They're expecting to need more than one lap to warm up the tires. With lap times projected to be in the 1'33" range, qualifying will get pretty crowded. Popcorn is ready.

I can say being on the ground here and about to walk to FP1 the atmosphere around the casino is meh.

The Sphere is amazing though. I have a view of the track and the Sphere from my room so I may watch FP2 from the room and have it on TV. The times are annoying for sure.

Perhaps worst of all, was playing roulette all morning and a fellow fan at the table left for the sports book hoping to bet. I started thinking of all the prop bets they might run like Yuki over under on points scored or stuff like that and they had nothing at all except race winner. Max at -300. I took Carlos at +1700.

What are the odds for Alonso to win?

My younger wife loved the music entertainment... and introducing the drivers reminded her of the Hunger Games(?!?). She wants to attend a race big time, nagging me even... I'm meh but will have to give in for next year's Vegas circus I guess. Maybe Paul can hook us up?

The race being run at 11:00 PM probably doesn't help.

Why does the track look like an upside down pig… I had to get it out there.

Really hate the celebrity forward spectacle they are going towards.

Well…. That didn’t last long. FP1 was literally a handful of minutes and they cancelled the entire session due to an issue with the track. Sainz broke his floor.

Reports from the track is that 3 cars have damaged chassis. Possible frame around the manhole lifted? Hope they can get this resolved for FP2 and the rest of the weekend.

Scandal.

I'm sorry to say, but in fact, based on the onboard videos, it's an insane post-apocalyptic looking Mad Max race track with a look and feel of an ancient times video game.

The race is over before it begins. What a shame...

Las Vegas has always been weird. 1982 final race took place in Caesar's Palace... in a parking lot.
