This is especially true here in the SF Bay Area. So lately I turned my attention to my “in the near future early retirement” Rolex. That’s the 40mm Day-Date with white dial and Roman numerals. One thing I wasn’t sure was which one, YG or RG. I’ve seen them on pictures but never in the flesh. So tonight after work I went to a nearby boutique for the first time to check out the differences of RG vs. YG. Well I can now say that RG is my preference.

While I was there I also asked for their “exhibition only” SD43 to try on and the SA casually said it was not exhibition only but actually for sale. Imagine my shock? A guy who literally just walked in with zero purchase history at this boutique simply got lucky tonight! You can say I’m very surprised this happened at all. Apologies for the poor pic, the lighting was crazy there.
Congrats! So I'm new to the process! I'm interested in a SS Sub No Date, and I would love to buy from an AD! So what's the "norm," in reference to paying over MSRP if you're lucky to find on available at an AD? Do you ask for a discount? Are ADs selling over MSRP? So seeing used Rolex watches going for more than MSRP, I would gladly pay MSRP! My son and I will be traveling to Phoenix/Mesa in early March for the Cactus League (CUBS) games, so I will be looking for some luck, too!

Did you try on the DD and decide between YG & RG?

Great watch, congratulations.

I highly highly underrated watch in the Rolex lineup, and for my money, the best diver in their lineup.

For me at least, the perfect size, heft, and design....big and beefy and purposeful, but not outrageously big and cartoonish.

Honestly I thought he was just kidding. Then I realized that they had different cases for exhibition only and another for for sale items. He took it from the latter.

My opinion the SD43 is the perfect fit.
The 40mm's were just too small. Your mileage may very.

This is the very reason why I started looking for the SD43. I have the 40mm Sub-C and I didn’t think the size increase on the new 41mm references were significant enough. I had another AD offer me the DSSD last weekend and frankly speaking I knew the thickness would eventually bug me so I passed. Glad I did.

Right now I can say I prefer the RG. A little subdued compared to the bling of the YG but definitely unique. I may reconsider for the WG but definitely it will be white dial with Roman for me.

I know the SD43 gets some hate for its size but its an amazing watch that is just different enough than the SubD that it makes it really special

I’m glad that Rolex gives us options. For many on here 40mm is perfect and that’s great for them. For sports models I prefer the 42mm to 44mm range and one of the reasons why I also own Panerai. If the Daytona became 42mm like the Speedy I’m absolutely sure there will be folks who will dislike it vehemently but I for one will welcome it with open arms.

This AD that had the SD43 in the window, did you have interest registered with them for the SD43?

Nice.

I was going to say, lil bit f*cked up if you had interest on file and they were going to let it fly in the wind to a walk in
