I have a sub date bought this year with an almost identical dent caused whilst scuba diving.

To me, it just means the watch is loved and is being used exactly as was intended. When I hand that watch down to whoever, I would rather the recipient see it and think “wow. Look at the adventures this has been through and the stories it could tell!” Rather than it looking like a shiny museum piece. Life is short; enjoy your watch as it was intended.

My opinion is not a very popular one, but I say wear it like a badge of honor.

How many Deep Seas never seen anything more than the deep end of a swimming pool.

Regardless of what it cost, it's still a tool watch in the fine Rolex tradition.

I wouldn’t sweat it. Yours doesn’t look bad to me, at least compared to a few of my daily beaters

I was upset with myself the first few times I dinged my watches but with time I’ve grown to accept them.

Honestly I’m a little pissed that Rolex uses such soft steel, this should have been a scratch not a deep dent. I’m surrounded by steel in my life, on board, trucks, everywhere, and none of the industrial steel ever dents so easily.

Anyways, polishing will definitely not fix this as it is too deep. I think this would require welding/soldering of extra material to fill the dent and then polish down to make it smooth?

In all likelihood I won’t get this repaired and will wait 5 years until it’s servicing time to see how many other scratches and dents I get.

Any advice appreciated.

the only advice i can give, is to stop using an ice pick to trim your fingernails

seriously though, that doesn't look all that bad, and yeah, i've got my fair share of seiko divers (SLA053, SLA051 and SBDX017) as well, and those things can take a BEATING and barely show any damage.

Not huge.
But if it bothers you, just fix it.
Because it's just a matter of cutting a check.

Wouldn’t lose any sleep over that at all. Typically I’m just trying to figure what the heck I did when I see new dings…at least you have a cool memory

Feels like a big deal in the moment. Live with it for a bit before rushing for a fix. Deepsea looks good with a bit of a patina. Mine has taken some beating over the years, but it's well equipped for that.

You could always tell people that the dent was the result of a fight with a Giant Squid.

If you dive with this watch “really using it as it should inline 99.99% of us” then you should not worry about dents.
A beast like this does not even look good in pristine conditions so keep enjoying it the way you best know how.

Let it be!
It's not a huge dent at all, it's a minor one, and it's a massive tool watch so it will pick up some more dings and scratches, builds character.

If it were me, I would first ask myself how I plan on wearing the watch going forward. Are you going to continue wearing it for the active lifestyle?

If yes, then I really don't see the point of fixing that tiny dent now since the odds are good that you will accumulate more scratches and dents.

If, on the other hand, you are planning to wear it very gently going forward then I would get it repaired now.
