1998 Datejust first service - fair price?
At the RSC at Caesars palace. $800 no upsells other than replace my perfectly cream colored tritium hands.

It is standard service price, so it is what it is. I’d pay it, to have it done by RSC. Good luck. Kat Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk |

Seems like a normal sort of amount $$$. Maybe a recommended independent could do it for a better price

Price is cheap enough.
Still recommend you to go to an independent so you can keep the hands. Watches with service parts are not that interesting anymore from a collectors point of view. If you insist on a Rolex workshop go to one of the two Rolex owned RSC in Dallas or New York. (My own experience with AD official watchmakers is very poor)

I also have that watch. The tritium "hands" are so pitiful I don't think it even pay"s to have them replaced. Don't get me wrong, It's a great watch. Maybe hold off until it needs a full service, like in about 20 years.

Thats an AD service quote, not RSC. Rolex has mandated that AD's add watchmakers to help scale service operations, likely to free up RSC watchmakers for CPO certifications. You still receive the Rolex service card and warranty. My AD serviced my 16600 and it came out fantastic.

I like the current “cream” color that mine have turned into so I plan on keeping them. |

Price is good but consider keeping the hands if that matters to you
Regardless, that's 26 years of use without the recommended (at the time) 5 year interval. I'm like you, I don't service on the (now) suggested 10 year interval - I service when it needs it. |

1998 Datejust first service - fair price?
Local input. Personally would rather go to the Wynn and have the attached Rolex watchmaker Luis service the watch if you want a strip location. Alternatively, if you live in the west side (Summerlin) Yanni at T-Bird is also a Rolex watchmaker and they are still an authorized Rolex AD service location. Those 2 have decades of Rolex watchmaking experience in the Vegas area. However, they may be obligated by Rolex to send it in to an actual RSC if the watch falls under vintage/classic category vs modern.
However your 1998 DJ has a 3135 and therefore falls under modern and should be serviceable at satellite locations still. The standard base price Rolex service center/ AD service price is $850 for a modern overhaul. Additional parts may be required and it will be priced accordingly. Parts that are integral to function (i.e crown, crystal) are not optional and declining is an auto cancel of the service request |

OP is not replacing the hands. Invoice clearly states he declined that option.

The price quoted is in-line with AD/RSC pricing. A modern Datejust is $800 according to our service book, and a new set of hands is $93.50 ($120 for a 4-hand set). The price stated by Kieselguhr of $850 would be for (most) modern professional services.

That’s the going rate from Rolex. Don’t see any issue with it.

I’d want to keep the original hands even if you replace them, suggest an independent.
