Handing a client a bag of money is not unethical. The OP has sold eight watches on the forum so the potential excuse that some can’t be bothered or are uncomfortable with reselling doesn’t hold water.

I have so many thoughts and would love to comment on this; however, I feel like there’s much information missing and that makes it almost impossible to make an astute observation (from me). So I will just observe with interest.

Maybe the Sales Associate did not realize your prior purchase history. Maybe, you could bring up the incident with the manager while reiterating your prior purchase history and loyalty to the AD.

My first post, just joined. Doing research about Rolex and wanting to purchase my first in the near (or not so near) future.

Sprite is the GMT I've been having my eye on! and you passed it up?!

It is a shame how the purchasing dynamics have evolved.

Hope everyone has a great sunday.
Wow. I'm shocked, shocked to see dealer and unethical being used in the same sentence. Personally, I thought all business was conducted in this manner in the business community these days - especially the watch business.

With the Air King, it was sold within 15 minutes of me listing it for sale at retail price. Literally zero effort and the guy sent me a prepaid label with funds wired before shipping. Couldn’t be easier

Is it possible that this AD thinks you are now the opposition?

I was never on the list for the sprite. It became available I said yes. This was on a Tuesday morning and changed my mind two days later. The reason for changing my mind, is that my brother is getting married and begged me to try to help get his dream SS Rolex. In my head, I thought being honest would help. I told the SA I would rather wait for my brothers dream watch, also thinking that another collector could purchase the sprite (might be at the top of the list for another collector). I also stated that i new how crazy the demand was and was really willing to wait. Sadly, this was not the case, and the SA official was upset “because she had fought to get me the watch). I honestly could have flipped the watch in 10 minutes, but did not want to. Reading some of the replies just goes to show how much has changed in the last 7 years. Wishing everyone a very positive and healthy week ahead!

you said yes to a hard to get piece and then changed your mind 2 days later after they even held it for you that long (which is rare these days). it's not unheard of that the SA might have pulled strings to hold it that long. it's unfortunate that this is where we're at with this market but respectfully, i would not be playing the victim here...

Good point. I’m not a fan of flippers like the OP in that case.

Unethical ADs

Sorry it worked out that way. We did have some fun, at your expense. So, thanks for that. Also, thank you for giving us the rest of the story. It does sound like the SA went out of her way to offer a sought after collector piece to you, and you let her down. We all know how crazy things are in Rolex World. You should have bought the Sprite and traded it to a trusted seller, for the watch your brother wants.

I see both sides here. Watch was held on good faith. SA has valid reason to be upset. She lost a sale. And probably some credibility with her boss. Could have been her turn, could have been her bonus unit. We don't know what it cost her really. Not sure how upset this SA was in front of the customer. However, being in luxury sales my entire career, I subscribe to the idea that customers are "mostly" right. She could have just moved on without expressing anything to the OP. IMO, ethics is not in question here. Rather customer service if anything. But again, just because she is in luxury sales, doesn't make her a doormat either. She could have indeed worked really hard for that watch.

Flipping new watches or worn for a few years? New watches I get, but if it's something older in collection I get it.

First, I’m sad for you bc you’re sad.

Can you list what you have purchased and over what period of time?

Unfortunately purchasing dynamics are determined by what you have purchased, over what period of time, for what amounts, how the store values that history, and also how you compare against other clients.

I would like to know what you consider to be a good client.
