Is the GRNR the only steel release this year?

Haven’t seen anything new that’s not PM aside from the GMT. Am I missing something?

Interesting direction.

you are correct. but look:

AP, Patek, VC and JLC are doing it. they all are doing it. you want to know why? prices are expected to drop so the way to keep sales up is to increase the price of product offering per piece by jamming PM models.

I think so. Not even a new DJ dial.

This wasn't a year of releases "for the people". Very much all about the precious metals and diamonds.

Is this a sign of the future?

You have to wonder with this release if Rolex will go even heavier on PM in the next few years and make Tudor the brand for those wanting stainless.

Rolex fans wanted a stainless Coke. They gave it to us via Tudor!

I know lines are created months, maybe years in advance, but right now, it is easy to get PM models from ADs. They cant sell them.

In 2024 we are all going to be getting calls for watches we cant afford!

Rolex is the Glock of the watch world - not in the same ballpark as the trinity or even JLC.

Edit: here are JLC's releases from this year

Crazy, but in a way I'm glad.

There's nothing new that really calls to me, so I'm happy that I won't be lusting over something unattainable.

They can jam all the PM they want but if customers don't buy, then they are worse off. And I don't think that buyers will automatically go to Tudor for SS. There are many other brands out there that make great watches, too. Those JLC releases are stunning.

I'm with you on this
They can churn out PM all they like, but it's meaningless if buyers don't buy them. My AD has PM pieces in stock that they've not been able to shift for over 8-9 months, such as the white gold Submariner, which they tried desperately for me to buy.

Not my experience; still waiting for the call.

This does absolutely nothing for me.

I’ve owned some of the most fabulous and most complicated watches in the world from Patek Philippe, and I continue to come back to Rolex, and continue to pretty much exclusively wear my Rolexes.

The watch you posted from JLC is beyond gauche and try hard from a brand that has become entirely irrelevant.

Tell them you’re into role play, and let’s role play me as a customer and you as an AD in 2016. Now let’s see how badly you want the inventory moved, I’ll start the negotiations off at a 35% discount.

Rolex sells the most watches and values the highest among all.

You’re missing the point - and by a lot. When I see someone wearing a Rolex, I don’t even mention it. If I see someone wearing a JLC, I can usually have a nice conversation with them about their watch.

JLC (and a lot of the other high horology watchmakers for that matter) aren’t making tourbillons and high complication watches to sell them - they’re making them as halo model to show the level of engineering, finishing, and innovation that they’re capable of. Audi made the R8 so that people would go buy the TT. It shows what the brand can do.

All that Rolex has said is “yeah we made the same model with the same movement, but it’s made of gold and we put diamonds on the bezel.” It’s just lazy - elevating prices is not the same as elevating the brand.
