Rounded crown guard of 16710
Hi, want to check with you is the crown guard shape is rounded off due to over polishing? Or it is a rather rounded design (not as square as the 6 digit GMT) as per original? Thanks

This watch has been polished way too much. It looks like butter, not like a Rolex.
Unless the price is really low, find yourself a better specimen. |

It is so hard to gauge condition on sites that use photos with white backgrounds and overexpose the images — I just avoid those types or listings.
Crown guards on 16710s are a bit round, you can best get a sense of the condition by looking at how sharp the the edge is, and you can see a bit of “ledge” on the top and bottom. If you want to compare or study, I think Tropical Watch has some of the best photography (and are great to work with): https://tropicalwatch.com/watches/search?q=16710+nos |

Yes they are rounder / not as prominent as 6-digit GMTs but it looks like the lower crown guard has been polished more compared to the upper crown guard.

Agree - hard to tell with these pics. Bottom is definitely more polished than the top cg. Doesn’t look too bad from here, that said.

These pics are inconclusive but, I would look closer at bracelet edges (look polished) and crown on clasp which looks overpolished.
The Crown guards are always far less prominent and square than the newer references, and unless they look like little nubs (reference another polish post in this forum within last 2 days) they don’t look that bad to me. I don’t think you could definitively say “this is way over polished” |

This one was definitely polished. I would say this is an average condition 16710 you can find at chrono24 or at some dealers. There's plenty of them available on the market but it's not easy to get a good one - if you're looking for original condition and not an ovelpolished blob.
Speaking of tropicalwatch.com - this is where I got mine a few months ago. It is great and I absolutely love it! Get in touch with Jacek and he will find a good one for you, he is fantastic. 16710 is worth every penny :) |

It’s true the crown guards are not as chunky as the crown guards on a six digit, but the lower crown guard on the pic has defo been overpolished, maybe because it got dinged or scuffed badly at some point.
Laser welding can build it up again but that’s a big expense. |

The 12 o'clock lug is much more polished than the one on 6 o'clock side. That's more obvious problem of this watch than the crown guards.
