One other thing, that watch should be heavy. Heavy as in, if you're not use to a watch of such substance, the first thought you would have had when picking it up would have been "Damn, this thing's heavy". Everyone, and I do mean EVERYONE, says that when they pick up my president. If you didn't have that reaction, that's one more strike against it. Best wishes.

You don't have to go to an AD to authenticate. Any watchmaker that is Rolex certified can do it, at least that was my experience since no AD's in my area had watchmakers on site and I had to go elsewhere.

Even if it turns out to be a replica it doesn't mean the sentiment of the gift to you is not genuine.

We should let the person at the receiving end decide that . I'd much rather inherit a real plastic swatch worn by my late loved one then a fake gold SS Daytona . But that is me because having an aversity to fake luxury goods.

What's wrong with Ben Bridge? I am neither an employee of Ben Bridge, nor do I know anyone who works for Ben Bridge, but they have a new store near my home, and was considering wandering in there to look at their Rolex offerings....

Don't worry, we were only referring to a thread posted a couple of days ago where a member when he walked in a Ben Bridges a salesperson played some kind of mindgame by letting of that she was not 100% sure his Rolex was real . I myself had a second hand M reg 116520 originally from Ben Bridges( California ) and there was nothing wrong with the watch .

You are absolutely right. I didn't mean to imply that I was making a decision for him. I'm just saying the thought can be genuine even if the watch is not. I share your disdain for fake watches too. But is there a possibility that this person's grandfather didn't know it was fake?

If it's a gold Daytona, it should weigh around 160 grams (heavy)... This is heavier than most stainless steel watches on the market. You can compare the weight to a similar design stainless steel watch at your local mall or jewelry shop.
As far as the movement, go to an authorized Rolex dealer or a watchmaker with the "burgeon tool" for removing Rolex caseback. They will pop the back and check the movement for authenticity. Cost about $50 to open the case or $500 for a complete overhaul. If you speculate a fake, do not send it to Rolex (NY, San Francisco, etc.) because they will confiscate it. I hope this helps and sorry for your loss. -Leo |

The watch actually looks like a genuine one but man ... the fakes are getting damn good and Im not 100% sure about it. Can you help me out with those numbers that I gived you ? can you tell me if its genuine or replica without even opening it ? thank you very much and I hope I get atlast a short answer!. |
