1969 Rolex DateJust ref. 1601 “Non-Luminous Black Gilt Dial”

Up for grabs is a Rolex DateJust in steel

Reference 1601 with white gold fluted bezel, 36mm case

2.3 mil serial number circa 1969 production.

Excellent vintage condition case with thick and sharp lugs. Fully legible numbers.

The dial is jet black with glossy lacquer and gilt print. A seldom seen combo already, this dial also came form factory without any luminous material and has the matchin, solid metal hands. The dial remains very glossy, without spider or matting. There is some chipping on the edge between 5 and 6.

Original date disk with open 6’s and 9’s. The crystal shows some crazing from age.

Caseback is stamped 1601 and date ’71 inside.

The bracelet is a Rolex folded link Jubilee reference 6251H with “55” ends, ’72 dated clasp, and fits a large wrist, about 7.75″.

No box or papers. No service history is known. The watch winds smoothly, runs at +9 seconds with ~260 amplitude at time of listing.
