Question re: the 5524 Pilot Travel Time

Considering my first Patek (own mostly Rolex and Omega presently). I am very interested in the Calatrava Pilot Travel Time - recently tried on the RG version at an AD, and it is beautiful! The one thing that bugs me a bit is that the sweep seconds hand doesn’t have a hacking mechanism. For you owners out there, is this something you get used to? Any other thoughts on the watch?

You can stop the seconds hand if you start setting the watch back in time with the crown. You can set the seconds pretty accurately this way but it takes some getting use to. I have the WG version and it is quite cool, nice daily.

You can make it hack and set the time precisely. Slight backward pressure on the crown will hold the second hand at a set position.

As stated above, can be done, and from what I’ve read, doesn’t hurt the movement. I personally didn’t feel it was a big issue and set it as normally instructed per PP.

Hacking is simply interfering with the mechanics of a watch by brute force.
Wouldn’t miss it, Patek knows a thing or two about watches and decided to leave it off.

This. My 1675 Rolex doesn't hack, and it doesn't concern me or cause problems if I need to adjust the time.

About non-hacking - what others said above.

I also got 5524g as my first Patek couple of months ago and absolutely love it, it’s a great watch. Go for it.

To me, I don't miss the hack at all I've had my watch for 20 years.

5524R with custom strap

Actually I set it up time today(daylight saving starts today) to the second by doing exactly what Martin said , turning back the crown just a little bit to make the second hand stop.

As the others said, jamming the movement is not a "hacking" complication.

5524 was introduced in 2015, it has not been around for 20 years!

I bought mine new from AD like 3 years ago , I know that Patek increased the retail price since then but the grey market for a used one has been steady for years, the used price is between 35k - 38.5k , I wouldn’t know the price for a new one .

the new PP movements are all hacking, just not their old ones.
btw, my 5524P from march 2024 has hacking seconds (updated movement).
