Have I missed the previous drop of the ReMaster Flyback Chrono 26595SR.OO.A032VE.01? Just saw that model on the website and it’s an absolute killer! Regrettably, as my sweet spot really is 38mm from AP I don’t think I could pull off the height of the watch (availability completely disregarded), but what a watch! I think if AP would have tweaked the CODE more towards this design, font, and ingenuity, they would have created an absolute stunner line (the name CODE 11:59 should go down in marketing history as an incredibly poor choice - as should the strategy of pushing a watch you want to establish in its own right as a RO bridge). Now that’s haute watchmaking! Go AP :-)

Interested to see the master 02.

Really like the way the crystal tapers off.

A moment on the wrist to know.

Agree.

I’ve already asked my SA to see it when (if?) they get one. Not sure how hard it will be to get because of the 250 pieces limitation, on the other hand this clearly isn’t a John Meyer type crowd pleaser but will be more of a Marmite model I assume.

I’m not sure about that. I bet JM gets one lol

But if the last one is any gauge they will be going for half off in 3 years.

Who knows where this one ends up but the proportions on the last one were terrible with the thick modern chrono movement.

This one at least seems a bit better balanced, albeit at 41mm. 39/40mm would’ve been money

Bravo to AP for doing something cool, unexpected and interesting!

Maybe the modern version is too big? I would have preferred a bit smaller, both for the sake of the watch and for being closer to the spirit of the original (but not being as small as the OG to keep the “remaster” spirit).

Pics from the Monochrome article mentioned above:

For the Remaster - half the complaints here are about AP neglecting their back-catalogue in favor of octagons. It will also be interesting to see if any of that crowd put their money where their posts are. I definitely look forward to seeing this in real life.
Just what I was thinking on the Remaster lets see if the haters go for this squashed Cartier style instead.

No decent HH brand should sell quartz IMHO
Patek, AP, VC, FPJ... not decent brands I guess.

The Remaster goes against everything I like in watches but conversely I actually think it’s a bit wonderful.

I’d love one

Not a bad release to dig through the catalog at all but I'm just starting to LOOOOL at the pricing.

Yeah I get it, limited edition blah blah (welcome to Omega world) but it's $47k pre-tax for a sliver of gold fashion watch with a leather non-quick change bracelet, two hander non date and 30m WR.

It's really starting to take the @&$$

VC Historique Américain 1921 is $40.4k, as is the PP 5226G. Closer to $40k than to $50k would have been easier to swallow for the Remaster.

I just hate quartz... A quartz watch, even a PP/AP/VC mechanically loses its HH status and, depending on finishing or diamonds (that they do feature in most cases, being women products), becomes a jewelery piece. It's just something else.

FPJ quartz is a bit different though and innovative. The Elelgante is the only quartz watch that I find "acceptable" but I don't like its design

AP new drops - [RE] master and RO 23MM

The RE2 is a great watch. So much to explore: genuinely interesting design from the past, great movement, lovely rotor, new sand gold metal and very nice dial. Unlike the RE1 there were more modern iterations than simply doing a cut/paste. I do share the same sentiment many have on the size: wish it was a little smaller but for me it is wearable and the pricing is high.

Personally I'm not a fan of the proportions on this one. I saw the original inspiration at the museum, it's a fun, funky little watch more like a lot of the one-offs VC or AP would do in the 50s/60s. The new one feels way more like a big statement type of watch. Even with the finishing - the small, polished yellow gold hits way different than the brushed sand gold on the new one. I guess for 47k you really want it to say something

I think, unfortunately, making this 41mm was a big missed opportunity...
Haven't seen this is person yet though.

Managed to check out the Remaster 02 at a local AP event. They showed it beside a large collection of vintage APs, beside the original 5159BA as well as the Remaster 01 along with the original. Here are some of my thoughts :

- the Remaster02, along with a presentation of Brutalist Architecture during the event was appreciated even more because you can see the inspiration for the watch.

- the edges are a lot sharper than the original 5159BA and the brushing makes the effect even more pronounced.

- the block of crystal that was machined from a single block to have the sloped edge was showed to us, and it started off from a block that was half a centimetre. The crystal was the highlight for me.

- the line where the crystal slopes down separates the words Audemars and Piguet on the dial. There is some symmetry in asymmetry.

- the dial is actually Blue Nuage Nuit 50 and brushed, made up of 12 individual pieces. Although they are the same colour, because of the angle of the brushing, every sector looks like a different blue under light.

- sand gold is a whiter in real life.

- interestingly the strap is matte Alligator on the top and gloss alligator on the inside. It’s rare to see a Modern AP strap with double croc, for me at least.

- the movement is based off the 7121, with the removal of the date module.

- the rotor has a cool asymmetrical shape.

- the watch doesn’t wear as big as it looks.

Overall if you like modern recreations of historic pieces like the Vacheron Historiques line, this is a super lovely watch to have. It’s asymmetrical shape, sharp edges, sloped crystal and dial bring something unique that I haven’t seen in a watch for a while. IMHO, it looks like how people in the 1960s figured the future Television shapes would look like in the 1980s.

Great write up! Much appreciated. Love this reference and hope AP continues to Garner inspiration from their back catalog
