Thanks! The 7a28/7a38 is a cool movement. It's the first analog quartz Chrono movement, and, since it uses metal parts, it's serviceable.
Also have a "gold" one: |

Picked this up yesterday here in Tokyo; February 1968 4420-9000. It's amazing how modern these vintage Grand Seikos still feel, and they make all the current models seem oversize and frumpy...

Lol. Thanks Bibi. I took a worse photo of it by Wako, and nearly passed out seeing the 4580 and 6185 they had on the first floor... Anyway, without further ado, my far less impressive GS - carved dial First. The dealer actually had an example of each First - printed, carved and applied logo dials. I know the printed is by far the rarest (the price reflected this), and the applied is pretty and all, but there is just something incredibly special in the hand carving… Thanks so much! I'm chuffed, as I've been searching for a good one for forever, and this was a far better example than I'd been expecting to find! |

Another purchase from my trip - a Seiko Cronos Special. These Daini watches are to the King Seiko First what Suwa's Seiko Crown Special was to the Grand Seiko First. For some reason, though, they are substantially rarer, especially in steel. Not sure if this is because fewer were produced, or that fewer survive. They have these really elegant, curved, almost FP Journe-esque hands, and are slim and light and gorgeous on the wrist...

Nice! Similar to the James Bond / A View to a Kill watch...
My favourite 7axx is the "Royal Oak", 7a38-702x (7029 in this case): Screenshot 2023-07-25 122913.jpg |

The True Bruce Lee
Much digital ink has been spilled over which Seiko 6139 the late Bruce Lee actually wore - it would have been a 6139-6010, possibly JDM though more likely to be from Hong Kong. He may have had a black dial one, but I am certain he had a brown dial one (possibly as well as the black, or maybe the black one is actually a brown dial in certain light).
bruce lee 1970s sunglasses.jpg Here's one Nov 69 non-JDM PROOF watch with Chinese day wheel, two-piece chrono hand and 6139A movement - this one is currently on an Uncle Seiko bracelet: IMG_20230517_093107.jpg The brown dial is interesting - it's not patina or a "tropical" degradation of the black, as is the case with some other vintage watches of the same period (Omega Speedmasters, Heuer Camaros and the like). It was always that colour, and I suspect was a special order from the Seiko distributor (Thong Sia) in Hong Kong & Thailand, who to this day also own the Stelux bracelet company. It's a stunning colour in bright sunlight, and yet in subdued lighting could almost pass as black (only the contrast between the black chapter ring and the dial might give it away) IMG_20230516_122351.jpg Here's one as I received it, hiding its light under the bushel of a scratched up crystal... IMG_20201003_133505.jpg And finally, the brown 6139-6010 dial colour is not the same as other brown dials of the same period - here's a brace of them, both November 69, with a June 1970 brown Bell-matic 4006-6020 to show the difference...
