It may have come off Rocky at first, but I am a Kat fan….and a fan of everyone else who slammed me. And no sources will be revealed, sorry.

Other perspectives were needed because there are still unknowns that we don’t know. And Rolex is changing rules constantly on AD’s. Remember guys I said “AD’s are at the mercy of Rolex too” so they are dealing with a lot too.

Just wanted to start off in a polarizing fashion, let’s go 12 and beyond.

So maybe I have a unique relationship with my AD but I know pretty much exactly how it all works from ordering their yearly allocations to who gets what. I didn't really know it was such a huge mystery. Sounds like a lot of ADs do keep their cards close to their chests for various reasons.

Basically they know their allocations for the year starting early in the calendar year after a winter production break after receiving a large allocation in December. The AD is supposed to have exhibition pieces for a certain amount of time and they're real and sold to customers after they've been on exhibition for a while. ADs can sell to whoever they want within reason. It is encouraged to sell to a variety of customers and not employees(there are sometimes special discounts for one time purchases for sales managers) or resellers. There's regular quality control surprise visits from Rolex corporate to get a vibe check on ADs. The AD can get in trouble if they are doing sketchy stuff.

Selling to preferred customers is 100% not against any Rolex rule or even recommendation.

I nerd out on seeing the special pieces that will get allocated that year. Mine had a LeMans Daytona recently but I passed. I'm one of those weirdos that doesn't like the Daytona.(also the Daytona is produced in very high numbers. Mostly because they make so many variants. The DJ and Daytona are the most common Rolex).

All ADs operate a little differently in regards to who they consider preferred customers. It usually boils down to who the sales managers like; as simple as that. They also do actually use "lists" which is not a traditional list of 1st 2nd 3rd, but more an idea of how long someone has waited before getting a higher demand piece to try and spread the love. With priority given to good customers(higher spenders, people who don't sell their watches, any type of bad media influence aka troublemakers).

Maybe this answers a lot of the mystery?

I recently was at my firearms dealer and he showed my his ordering screen, his cost, what he's allowed to sell it for, who gets allocated what and when and how that process works as well. I just asked because I was curious.

I think a lot of folks are just shy or non-confrontational so they just shuffle off to the internet with conspiracy theories.

So, being facetious, I take it? I have not heard of discounts on brand new Subs from ADs.

Clearly, according to the context of the original post, you are a very high roller and have spent 100s of Gs

I was given a free bracelet link, so that would be $66 below retail. My AD has real class and I will always be a customer of theirs. When I bought my first new Seadweller in about 1983 or so I was in Texas and got a 10% discount off of retail.

High Roller?

High Roller? Ha Ha, I have seldom gambled and never been called a high roller. I am a retired guy who worked a lot for over 45 years as a Commercial Diver, Bouncer, Nuclear Engineer, Submarine technician and REI Employee. I have always saved a fair amount of my salary and I do have one hell of a Financial Advisor.

Since the late 1970's I have probably owned a dozen or so Rolex watches and probably 25 or so from Seiko, Grand Seiko, Girard Perregaux, Breitling, Omega, Glashutte Original, Sinn, Citizen, G-Shock, Etc.

It helps that my wife does not mind my watch hobby but she still will not let me buy a Bentley, so I drive a Subaru. I have bought her a couple of Rolex watches though; most recently this one.

Glad you have a good AD. I’m lucky to have one, too. As for discounts, “those were the good ole days”.

Kind of a loosely defined “discount” lol. In that case, I got my new DJ at $287.75 below retail.
