$6000 is what full list price is on an Explorer II. I would venture to guess that you can do better than that in NY. With a little negotiating skills, most ADs will give you some sort of a discount, however on an EXP II, i'm not sure how much of a discount that would be.. My guess would be around $5500 give or take?

Hope that helps

You will always pay a bit of a premium when you buy direct from an AD. If you are willing to go the non-AD route. I would check out the For Sale section of this forum. There are very reputible "grey dealers" who sell at a great discount.

ebay and many 'web' sales are for used watches........ or worse, outright scams..

Unless you know who you are buying from, it is a chance not worth the risk......

In the US, all MSRP prices are without tax added............ In many countries their price includes the tax, so anybody traveling needs to take the differences into consideration..

Also, import/customs taxes back into your country could add quite a bit to the cost as well..

I bought my TT Sub in Germany. It was 67% of the cost in the U.S. You get the sales tax (VAT) refunded and I paid with AMEX which got me a great currency exchange rate.

GoldenBear: what is the VAT rate applicable? Was it an AD, and did they refund the VAT at source by reducing the overall price or did you get it back at the airport/forms stamped and sent back to vendor?

I may purchase my next Rolex in Europe and am curious about the taxes.

Cheers.
