Should I go with preowned 126660 Deepsea now or wait for 136660 from boutique

Hi all, been wanting to add a Deepsea JC to my collection for a while and now came across a very good condition late 12 series at a preowned dealer.

To my eyes, the most obvious differences are the visible sapphire edge and different case back.

I think both are good choices but it’s a tough one to choose. I like the 12 for the flush/continuous sapphire appearance and the flip lock but also like the 13 for the supposedly larger date window and being the latest and most up to date iteration. I would say pricing difference is negligible too which makes it harder.

Does the 13 wear or look different at all after a while if you’re coming from 12? Because the bezel is meant to be flatter?

Can anyone please share your thoughts.

The differences are minimal. I have the 126660 and prefer it over the 136660.
Primarily for the crystal. The case back does not make a noticeable difference in wearability and comfort. Even though I don't use the diver's extension (like most), I like knowing I have it as it was made for the watch to begin with.
The newest version is not always the best.
Good luck either way. The DSSD is a fantastic watch!

It's a hard one.
Anti reflective coating on the inside of the crystal, improved date window, thinner bezel and removal of the mostly redundant divers extention are compelling reasons to wait for the 13.
The Caseback dimensions are the same between the 12 and 13, but it has a reconfigured design. I know because I have recently had the opportunity to take measurements and directly compare it to one on a 116660
The problem will be there's no guaranteeing they will sell you one

I would take the bird in the hand and be done and dusted with it
But that's just me, as I waited a number of months in 2015 - 2016 and that's before everything became completely and utterly weird with regard to Rolex supply. Also the JC seems to be a bit harder to get.

The thing about the diver extension- this seems to come up a lot. The extension can be purchased if you need it for like $700. So it’s an option now- not an either or.

If you like the classic look with the visible sapphire edge, the 126660 is a solid pick. But if you're leaning toward the latest updates, like the flush crystal and bigger date window, the 136660 might be the better choice. Personally, I'll always choose classic items.

No diver flip extension in the 13x

The 12 series has the divers ext the 13 series does not they are very similar both wear about the same. I prefer the 12 series. They are both great. The 13 should not be so hard to get.

If you’re willing to wait…get the latest version.
Me personally….if I wanted this particular reference, I wouldn’t wait on an AD, wait for goodness knows how long, buy stuff from the AD I didn’t want, etc….
I’d grab the 12 series or find the 13 series from a TS. The subtle differences wouldn’t keep me from buying the 12 series.

I have the 12 and have turned down the newer 13 as it wasn't sufficiently different/better in my eyes.

And the date window for the 13 is only 6% larger than the 12 which almost impossible to notice imv.

If you aren't necessarily enamoured with needing the flip out divers extention, then i would wait for the 13.
Besides, some people remove it anyway to get a better on the wrist feel when sizing it.

Visually, IMO the dial looks better on the 13 due to a better date window placement and its slightly larger size.
Plus there's the AR coating under the Crystal which i have concluded after viewing the 13 side by side with my 11, is an added advantage when viewing the dial off axis.

The caseback is improved on the 13 as it has a broader flat area which may very well be an added advantage with feel on the wrist.

Then there is the full 5 year warranty factor and with that movement i would want that warranty in my back pocket just in case for later on.

I was lucky enough to have picked up a 136660 from an AD in Italy as a walk-in a few weeks ago. This may suggest that waiting times are coming down, although I have to say i'm on a few AD lists in London and have never heard a word from any of them! There are quite a few 126660 available for sale and I was tempted. However, I do prefer the larger date window and i'm pleased i waited to get the watch I wanted at retail.

It’s not hard to get from an AD but I would still suggest finding the best deal on a used one and save several thousand dollars. I would enjoy it better vs seeing one I could have bought and saved a bunch of money. I love the deepsea- definitely pick one up!

Picking up a desired piece as a walk-in

Italy/Milan - no luck, they are apparently not allowed to sell to non-Italians due to shortage (if that’s true).

Germany- more promising, but was told it’ll be end of year. I am a customer of this AD.

US/NJ - went to the AD 4 weeks ago and was told “we’ll have one in a few weeks” - also have a prior relationship through a Tudor purchase.
Got a call 3 weeks later and am now a proud owner of a JC
