I remember as a young kid being in the car with my mother and going to pick my father up from work. As we were waiting by the curb we saw a lot of people leaving the building and most of the women were crying. When my father go into the car my mother asked him why everyone was crying. He said, you haven't heard? Elvis died. Then my Mother burst out crying. Great artist.

An amazing thing about Elvis is that he appeared in 31 films and had top billing in all of them. That's got to be some kind of a record.

Early in spring of 64 we piled into our 58 Ford truck to the drive in to see "Fun in Acapulco" I was around 8 and very tall for a girl with this dumb bowl/Moe three stooges hair cut I was often called hey boy etc...I told my friend with us I was going to marry Elvis....to which she said he would never do that with you because your taller than him. To which it became a big fight etc,,,,,I told Mom you are not touching my hair ever again I'm never going to be called hey boy again.
By 9th grade I was 5 ft 10 and 5 ft 11 as a senior....so yeah I was center in girls BB team and long distance track runner. My hair was down to my butt before I cut it again. Then I was told I looked like Frances Mcdormand and still do which is better than hey boy. Never got to marry Elvis either. FIA was my fav Elvis movie.

I was in Joe's Bar in Mahon Harbour in Menorca when we heard the news. My late mother was in floods of tears. Still feels like yesterday.

(Has to be sung in an Elvis voice) …… ‘he was caught in a trap’ …

I was very young and holidaying with my parents in a B&B owned by relatives in Cornwall. I remember my Mum crying her eyes out and wondering why she was so sad. Even more confusing when she told me she didn’t even know him.
Years later I became a massive fan and like many others considered ‘sliding doors’ where he dumps the Colonel, takes new management and leaves the States.
RIP to the greatest.

I think the saddest thing about Elvis' death was the sad state he was in by the time it happened. Those of us who are/were big Elvis fans always felt he deserved a much better ending. Mind you, I'm not sure I would have wanted to see him still doing Vegas at 70 in the white bejewelled jumpsuit, but maybe a more dignified end like Tony Bennett or similar.
I was sad when Joe Cocker died and wore a black armband to work. I will be sad when Ian Anderson (Jethro Tull) dies and have thought about organising a Wake for IA Fans.
In fairness though , there's a good chance I will beat him to it. I don't suppose he will organise a Wake for me.

I definitely remember that day.

What are your favorite songs of his?

I like “I Can’t Help Falling in Love With You.” From “Blue Hawaii,” right?

My husband’s is “Suspicious Minds.” It is a well-done song, and much more complicated than “Love Me Tender.”

The reason people moms cried was Elvis was one of the main entertainers who changed the music scene away from vanilla types like Pat Boone, to rock and roll, which was essentially “black music”.

And the music world never looked back even though there was a big push by certain types of people to have the music quashed. Luckily they were unable to stop the teen revolution from happening. And Elvis, Jerry Lee Lewis, and many others were able dictate the music scene up until today. The Rolling Stones and Beatles as well as most of the British Invasion credit Elvis, et all with their love of music. Which was derived/stolen from Southern Black artists mostly.

Personally I was never a big Elvis fan and much preferred the Beatles when they hit in 1964.

And sadly “show business” ended up destroying Elvis and he became a caricature of himself in later life, in Vegas, and died a very messed up guy.

I was 5 years old at my neighbors’ house when I saw my friend’s mom crying in front of the 12inch black and white tv in the kitchen. I’ll never forget how sad Mrs. Quinn was that day.

I was getting ready to start my junior year in HS & met a friend that afternoon to go for a run together. When we met he informed me that Elvis had died. We ran 10 miles, singing Elvis tunes the whole way
