15500ST vs 116509 blue dial Daytona...

With other sport Rolex models and Daytona's in the collection. Thinking about diversifying a bit and intrigued by some other brands.

Would you rather have a 116509 blue dial or the 15500ST blue dial AP? I have never owned an AP, but do love the classic looks of the Royal Oak and think the bracelet is really nice.

The 41mm RO wears really quite big, much bigger from than the Daytona, you really need to see it on your wrist before you buy.

That’s why I personally went with the 16202 39mm Jumbo, the proportions work so much better than the 41mm on my wrist, but pre owned that’s a different price point.

Overall, the AP Is clearly in a much higher league than Rolex, but I wouldn’t buy it just blindly.

The daytona, and this comes from a big AP fan.
As already mentioned, 15500ST wears big, the dial is very empty

The blue WG Daytona has one of my favorite dials on a Daytona.
Nice blue color and love the red details.

But tried on a friend's blue 116509 and it was really difficult to read the time with the main hands and the chrono subdials.

Royal Oak >>> Daytona
But it wears a lot bigger than the Daytona.
Try both and pick what you like

Daytona is the better long term pick.

I've owned both in many various configurations. If you are comparing a Daytona to an AP it should be compared to the ROC. Want blue dial, go with either of the two below, would take any day over the daytona - you also have the optionality of 38mm ROC. The finishing and quality of the AP is on another level, the bracelet is unmatched. If I were to do it all over again, I would go with the 38mm ROC or older 39mm ROC, as I find the 39mm jumbo perfect for my wrist and the 41mm a tad too big.

I have 116500 black and 26240 white…to me they are totally different watches. AP wears a lot bigger than Daytona.

I have had both. I would go with the AP. I would personally go for a different dial color on the Daytona but that is personal preference. Can't beat a blue dial on an AP. Other than my Chronograph panda :)

15500ST vs 116509 blue dial Daytona...

I’ve have both. They are both equally spectacular watches. Don’t get me wrong The Daytona is great, but when you put that AP on, it’s just feels amazing… My Daytona is a Black older racing dial for the record :)

Also the bracelet on the AP kills the oyster bracelet ! Light reflects off it like sun beams! Stunning again you need to try it on to understand.
These photos don’t really show it but…

This is a pro/con for me. Is it stunning in most ways but sometimes you just don't want that attention. That's why I always keep mine on the rubber strap especially when traveling. Do know that it is an option as well. But to each his own.

Not sure that a Daytona is a watch that flies under the radar these days either, if safety is your main concern.

Been a Rolex wearer for 40+ years. I have had dozens of all the models in every color and metal. I love Rolex but lately I needed a change. I have always admired the RO and recently picked up a 15500 Grey dial and I am in love. The honeymoon is going on 2 months now and still going strong. I say go for the AP for the win and for a change.

Exact trade I just made... a WG blue dial Daytona for a Grey Dial 15510ST 50th.... don't know whats better. The Daytona is missed but its nice to do something different.

Yes firend of mine is torn between going Jumbo on grey market or buying new platinum daytona 126506 with see through back. He can get Rolex at retail probably less tax so the price is more or less same as new Jumbo grey.

Obviously biased towards AP but new Platona is also amazing watch and definitely a keeper. Didnt have idea what to tell him?

Only drawback iz platona is pretty heavy but that ice blue dial is mesmerizing. Tough choice:)

Was a hard decision. Rolex is built so tough and so practical plus being WG... the Ap is well... an AP. Way more hand finish and exclusivity... that said no dealer network in Canada. I always wanted an AP so took the plunge. No regrets per se but I really liked the Daytona
