Submariner Date SS 16610 purchase...?
This is my first post on this forum as I am a new member. I currently own a Tag Heuer Aquaracer and a Breitling Avenger Skyland....but, I'm looking to join the Rolex family. I'm interested in purchasing a Submariner Date SS. I've read on the forum that the new Submariners are coming out with the text around the dial (which I don't really mind having), but I've also read that Rolex will be releasing the Submariner with the Glidelock Clasp....here are my questions:
1. Has the Glidelock clasp version hit ADs yet? 2. If they're not out yet, do you guys recommend I wait until the Glidelock clasp version comes out being how it's considered an improvement over the Fliplock? 3. What AD do you guys recommend for the purchase? 4. Is 15-20% off MSRP the maximum discount, or have some of you received better deals than this? 5. Are there any mechanical downsides to getting the date version over the non-date version? Perhaps any problems owners have expereienced with this particular model? 6. Is the submariner scheduled to get another price hike this year? Thanks in advance for your responses guys! |

Welcome to the Forum.
1. Has the Glidelock clasp version hit ADs yet? Not the SS model. 2. If they're not out yet, do you guys recommend I wait until the Glidelock clasp version comes out being how it's considered an improvement over the Fliplock? The glidelock seems to be an improvement over the current clasp but I would expect the new SS Sub to be 18 months away. 3. What AD do you guys recommend for the purchase? Can't help you here. 4. Is 15-20% off MSRP the maximum discount, or have some of you received better deals than this? Doubt you will get that discount off the new SS Sub when it come out but who knows. 5. Are there any mechanical downsides to getting the date version over the non-date version? Perhaps any problems owners have expereienced with this particular model? No mechanical downsides. Same movement but with or without the date function. The non date Sub will not get the new bracelet IMO. 6. Is the submariner scheduled to get another price hike this year? I would think Rolex prices are always going up.

Welcome to the forum...
1. Not that I have seen or know 2. I love the flip lock feel on the sub better than the Daytona clasp. But it is up to you. 3. Better check a few on your area and decide which one is best for you (price, service, etc). 4. Usually 10%.. up to 20% I have seen 5. Nope.. Rolex = Quality 100%, they both will last forever. 6. You never know.. ask an AD they will say yes.

Wow, 18 months....dont' know if I'd like to wait that long for the Glidelock clasp, moreover, I'm sure the Glidelock clasp version will also add even more to the price!
What are the downsides to the current fliplock version? |

what I heard recently was for new version of sub dates, and other current sports version which has not been revised (subs, explorer II) apart from the clasp change, the current design of the links will also be discontinued in the next model change, and would become something similar of what daytona has, where the center link is polished finished rather than brushed hairline.
Also I am a very proud owner of SS Sub date, not a problem and glad to be wearing it everyday!!! |
