For me, I like action/adventure movies. Not typically drawn to movies for the female characters. That said, big Julia Roberts fan. Loved Kate Hudson Almost Famous as well. Charlize Theron is clearly incredibly versatile. But Monster isn’t my cup of tea. Not too many female leading actors that are going to draw me to a movie. Maybe Natalie Portman. Or Scarlet Johansson. That’s about it. But very happy to see more examples and get some guidance on who to check out.

He's gotta be retired by now, but the actor whose work I probably admire most is Robert Duvall. Thought his performances in Tender Mercies, The Apostle, The Great Santini, and of course Lonesome Dove, were all terrific, and all played very differently. He's done a lot of memorable supporting work, as well.

Suggesting women were omitted from the discussion for a particular reason, is virtue signaling. Hardly an attack. Simply an observation that it wasn’t necessary. And the I actually explained why. And went on to discuss a few of my favorite female actors. If you feel I was attacking you, you have my sincere apology. Let’s move on. any other good female actors to check out?

I think comedy is underrated as a genre, and hard to do well. She’s more of a TV actor really (I think of her character Leslie Knope from ‘Parks And Recreation’), but I love Amy Poehler. Such a funny actress.
Steve Carrell too for same reason: so funny in various roles. |

Nice thread. Not sure if already mentioned but I love Robin Williams, RIP. He played a very range of roles and made them each one of them seem real.

I took a very intense dislike to her after seeing K v K....(proved what a great movie actress she is, I suppose.)
Then I saw her in, Out of Africa....brilliant! ...and then, Falling in Love, with Robert DeNiro.....lovely story, great acting, (which I identified with, in a big way) |

You have to include Tom Cruise in the great actors group. Convincing in whatever role he plays and very versatile.
