As someone 62 who follows cars all my life, my prior image of Jaguar was:

"Beautiful, performance, but fragile".

Now it is:

"Perverted, threatening, very oppressive".

I do not think that is an improvement. Maybe it works on younger demographics.

Kinda sad. As a lifelong Jaguar fan since infancy (circa 1960s) I find it very sad to see the slow demise of a great automobile Marque. A Series 1 E Type FHC is still my dream car above Ferraris etc. The early Jaguars were very special - the XKs - and XJs. In recent times, only the 'F Type' does anything for me.
When idiots start changing classic Marque-identification icons you know the brand is stuffed.

Was out and about yesterday and followed an Ipace, both my partner and I remarks what an odd shape it was....

The only chance Jag has is to quietly drop their campaign, come up with a new toned down more inclusive one and hope people forget come 2026 when they release their new EV's

The author, Simon Webb, has an interesting perspective on Jaguar's, current marketing campaign, though his narrative may be too acute for some.

Really, damn shame!
I used to love jags as a kid in the 70’s.
One of my low key desires from back in the day was to own a 2 door XJC.

I found their concept car in the new catalog with a small but significant error:

Everything is fine with the image, except they forgot to get DEI approval for their outdated humanoid model. This is outrageous, and disgusting in the 21st century.

Interesting.

I suppose they could be targeting pop stars and celebrities. They might find this ad appealing and could afford 250k cars. But that’s such a limited demographic. I wonder what their projected production / sales numbers are.

Yes, artistic and different. Clearly some are a bit sensitive about that.

If only Jaguar tried so hard with their product.

Sad because I’m also a fan of Jaguar, or at least always thought that they were the best looking cars on the road. Never owned one as I’ve always been in a SUV or truck. I fear for their future.

Such a shame the long progressive demise of a once great brand. They lost their way some time ago really. I’ve long been a Jaguar fan, but I think this is the end.

They’ve already been pretty poor at hitting any particular demographic for sales for the past decade (or two), now they will alienate those that still cared for the brand to attempt to break into a group that likely couldn’t care less.

Additionally the new branding looks like a mid tier handbag company versus a car brand.

I’m sure the CEO doubling down on it all will now change everyone’s opinions and result in sales… lol

Back in the 90s my old boss had a Jag... you could not argue with the absolutely beautiful exterior design and well appointed interior. Driving down the street in those days and seeing one, there was no doubt what you were witnessing, poetry in motion, reliability aside.

As others have stated, their design has somehow blended into every other appliance on the road sans the F type that looks and sounds fantastic.

With regard to this add campaign, Bud Light indeed, but attention aside, it doesn't compel me to go out to a dealership to test drive one. Their insistence on only being EV when other automakers are backing away from that direction may serve to be the nail in the coffin for a storied brand.

My wife worked for Jaguar / Land Rover for 8 years. We had a number of both during that time. When Tata first bought them, they poured a ton of money into design, track experiences and reconnecting enthusiasts with brands that had been devastated under Ford.

Within 3-4 years, they started getting sloppy. And the electronic 'upgrades' were awful. We had the computer and console screen replaced 3 times in a year, and our last vehicle we had to lemon. At that same time, there were 7 other cars in the dealership all being returned under the Lemon Law.

My biggest gripe about the Jaguar product is the jarring ride. They all exaggerate every bump in the road. The XJL was the only exception. On the track, the F-Pace is a monster. But the company hasn't delivered anything exciting in many years.

If they still have a presence in the US in 5 years I would be surprised. Their current electric vehicle is a dog, and they want to sell $250K electric vehicle?
EV sales have slowed to a crawl. Not even Porsche could sustain the brand from Taycan sales, and they have far more appeal and commercial advantages over Jaguar.

As far as I can tell, Jaguar is trying to frost a mud cake. Good luck with that.

It just occurred to me that this Jaguar commercial is very reminiscent of this year's summer Olympics opening ceremonies.
I wonder if there were any creators in common.

I read their goal is 50 thousand units a year globally, which is pretty aggressive when looking at historical numbers for the last 5 years.

I can't help but wonder if the Chief Marketing person at Jaguar lives in an echo chamber. Maybe he's surrounded by yes-men/women?

Did no-one have the guts to say "I think this ad is a terrible idea".

Well, as a global campaign, I’m sure the bright colors and mixed races play better in India or Asia or Europe. More than the States at least.

That and Jaguar has long had an image problem of being a stuffy brand for old people…. So, being disruptive was probably part of the goal of the campaign.

Personally, I think the change to the logo is more problematic. It is a total abandoning of the DNA.

I don’t think that ad will appeal to their target audience.

Most 60plus buyers are beyond their sexually ambiguous years. They already picked a team or teams.

If they can resurrect their best designs and make the vehicles reliable, they could sell But not at $250k plus.
