FS: 1958 Rolex 5504 Oyster Perpetual Air-King Jumbo 36mm Waffle Honeycomb 369 Dial

For sale is a very good condition 36mm stainless steel Rolex Oyster Perpetual Jumbo Air-King “Honeycomb”. The 5504 is a 370,xxx serial, and bears a production stamp inside its caseback from the second quarter of 1958.

The Rolex features a steel case with a fixed smooth bezel, and is mounted on an unworn quick-release Mocha Brown suede calfskin leather strap from Hide & Alloy. The Air-King features a rare “Waffle / Honeycomb” texture dial with applied hour markers and radium coated hands. The hour markers and hands have acquired a light bronze colored oxidation with age, while the radium lume remains untouched. The movement used in the 5504 is the Caliber 1530 which features a butterfly rotor and is currently running, but its last service date is unknown.

Condition:
The case has been preserved well and remains strong with thick even lugs. The waffle dial is free of any nicks of scratches, while its text remains well defined and crisp. The radium lume remains present and is untouched with minor lume loss. The acrylic crystal does contain some light surface wear, which could be removed with a light buff.

Overall, the Air-King is in very good condition and is a wonderful “as-found” example of a rare Waffle / Honeycomb 3,6, 9 dial reference 5504 Jumbo Air-King.
