Why is TRF so hard to navigate

I am quite new here so without trying to offend anyobody, can someone explain why TRF software looks like its still from the 1800. I understand it is a sponsored forum or the like but every time I think of posting or making a thread I feel an urge to go for therapy. Maybe I should.
Thoughts? (Not about my therapy. about TRF.)

LOL, it is a bit DOS like. I'm still trying to figure out how to post pics with the new apple ios18 update. It used to give you the option to resize them smaller, but it doesn't now so I haven't been able to post.

I am trying to figure out how to post pics to start with. keeps asking to resize and I have no idea how to. Maybe I should try stick a printed picture to my screen with glue, though I am not sure how you guys would see it...

Is there an option to get an app like that for windows. I am currently running it off my laptop

Not perfect, but it just takes some getting used to.
Highly doubt there’s a monster budget for web services anyway.
I use the free image hosting of IMGUR for my photo posts.
Like everything in the world, you either adjust or leave it alone.

Get TapTalk.... tho yes this software was written in Basic on a Atari 400, then ported to an IBM clone machine (Wang) with Hayes Microcomputer modem. It's an older code, but it checks out.

Not that I’m aware of. I rarely ever visit on my desktop or laptop though. So it works for me and my phone visits.

I primarily use my phone for everything. When I joined, I was using TRF on Safari. Incredible pain in the butt, bought Tapatalk and have been happy with it ever since.

It’s funny … I guess I’m so used to this forum platform that I really like it a lot!

I tend to use the forum mainly on my iPad through safari and only when I post a picture do I use tapatalk

I think everyone who encounters a new experience dislikes changing their existing habits that they learned on other platforms.

In reading your other posts there are two suggestions I have since you appear to be mostly using a Windows device with TRF.
(BTW, I am big on using TapaTalk on mobile but maybe you're not a mobile user)

1) use a free photo hosting cloud service for your images and then just insert an IMG link to the image in any post you make where you want to include a photo.

Or

2) read the sticky note about image pixel size limits, then use a Windows utility to build a simple auto-resize macro if you want to continue with attaching the actual photo in a post.

Thanks, that is very helpful, and yes, I am really not a phone user. I generally like it for calls and texts and use my laptop for online

I’m fine with it since I used to hang out on older forums similar to this format…

But my 2 only gripes are:

-Posting pictures requires me to use a Resizer app which is an extra step and inconvenience.
-no Like button for posts. I’m not a social media type person, BUT it would be nice to Like a post to let people know you appreciate or agree with what they are saying or the picture they post. Most of the time I just read on here and don’t comment but would still like to show appreciation or agreement in that way.

I like it and find it easy to use, post photos (using imgur) and navigate, but then I have always accessed TRF using a Laptop or PC and a big monitor.
I don't do anything on my phone except calls and texts as the format is too tiny and I can't read anything and it compresses detail and loses formats. And the thought of actually posting anything fills me with dread.

I'm with the guys who are good with the forum the way that it is, maybe because I have been around a bit, may be considered "old" at 51 (and lurked a lot longer before I signed up and supported this forum).

I frequent just a handful of other forums with varying subject matter, and have seen a few go south quickly because of change. Many (relatively) older members don't typically like to experience a change in forum format, and while it may be true that the updates to forum function are technologically better, losing those members are a significant loss in intellectual knowledge base. One of the greatest values of information on this forum is the knowledge base of its members, and many members on this forum have lived through decades of Rolex changes and can easily answer historic inquiries with the information that is readily available in their brain housing group with little effort. The true value of this forum is its members, their collective knowledge, their willingness to share it with anyone as long as the inquiries are bounded by the forum rules, and the vast knowledge available here in the archives if you are willing to put a little effort into searching older threads.

The perfect example is Padi. He may be grumpy occasionally, be akin to trying to hug a cactus, and draws fire from new members because of his distain for the unfortunate direction that Rolex has morphed into more of an investment and $$$ value, but you cannot disparage his knowledge of the brand through his many decades of experience with Rolex. He is but one example of many who hold the brain trust, many of whom have started as newbs and are now cresting the "expert" designation based on the time they have spent on this forum as scholars. We aren't usually discussing the cutting edge of AI here when and it is not the purpose of this forum as I see it. Many join here because they appreciate wearing a mechanical device on their wrist, and the beauty of what makes these watches run hasn't changed in hundreds of years, so we need the institutional knowledge.

Another example is the recently released Rolex book. Many rejoiced when it was announced, me included. Then the product was delivered and I was astounded that something that appeared to be brand-sanctioned was apparently so full of errors based on (again) the knowledge base of this forum's members compared to the author. I may be drinking the forum Kool-Aid but I don't think so.

I have seen other very popular forums nose-dive after selling out to entrepreneurialism (initials VS and others) that snatch up high-traffic forums for the advertising value. The forums die rapidly shortly after changing hands. I am thankful that owners of the other forums I frequent, and more importantly this one, resist the urge because when subject forums die, then many members tends to move to FB...and realize that is a terrible alternative. No, I think we have it pretty good here.

TLDR: No issue expressing your opinion, but leave it TRF alone please, all is well here. Thank you to the owner, mods and sponsors.
