I was too busy installing wood floor for my S/O to make it out to see my family on Xmas and I was a bit salty about that but didn’t care either way about the gifts I received. Didn’t want them, but I am lounging in the house in some new sweatpants right now so can’t complain.
We’re going to the Bahamas Jan 6 and we love each other to death. Who cares about stuff? Got plenty of it and don’t want half of what I have already lol I bought Maxine a flooring nailer; a bunch of kitchen tools and some sexy workout outfits that are more for me than her. Hate to say it but after prepping all the walls, removing wallpaper from 4 rooms, Wayne’s board from the hallways and skim coating the halls, painting and installing a wood floor; I didn’t feel like dropping a few grand on jewelry. Hopefully the $50k or so in added equity to the house will suffice. She didn’t seem to care I didn’t go all out for Xmas this year. We went hiking in the woods with half a foot of snow to cut down our tree. Had gifts under the tree for the experience. Had half a floor installed to enjoy while we finish up this week/end; I made some venison chili from a deer I harvested a few weeks ago. Took her out to the burger bar the night before Christmas Eve. What gifts were they hoping for? I genuinely can’t think of anything that would add enough value to my life for me to be disappointed with its absence. I must be too simple |

We have a $50 grab bag in my family and the presents are wrapped (blind).
If someone gets their own gift we try to trade. The gifts are typically cooking knives, pans, utensils, since my whole family likes to cook. We also have a $25 gag gift grab bag. It is marked by who gets the goofiest gift. I got a Willie Nelson Chia Pet one year. My wife took a picture of me with a rubber Turkey hat on my head and turned it into a pair of socks that the winner wears to Christmas every year. This year my present contribution was a IRISKI shirt (half Irish Half Polish) One of my sons won it. He wore it all day! I had a daughter that gifted a fish in a bowl. Lots of fun with no big cash outlay. |

We had 2 really good holidays (Oct & Dec) so we just agreed a token gift of no more than £50. Past few years we’ve also said token gifts & then went for a long weekend away in Feb/ Mar. We’re both mid 50s & not much we need & empty nesters.
I just enjoy the time off/ recharge the batteries |
