Pilot Travel Time 5524g or Vacheron Overseas Chrono

Hello crew!

I know the answer is, whatever I like, but would value your opinion!

I am looking to consolidate my small collection of watches down to one, nicer watch, that I can wear almost every day.

I am down to two:
Patek Pilot Travel Time- 5524g
Vacheron Constantin overseas chronograph- 5500v (reverse panda dial)

Considerations:
- I’m 6’7”, 7.75in wrist so I worry about watches fitting too small
- the watch would pair with my Apple Watch as my only two in rotation
- I work in a business casual setting

That’s about it!

Would go for the travel time complication as it may be more useful for business/travel.

Also if it is to pair with the apple watch, go for the gold option!

If I was going to get a Patek Pilot watch I'd go for the limited 5522A. Same 42mm size but a cleaner watch with steel a bonus in my eyes. Will cost a little more but should hold its value better as there are "only" 600 out there. I'd pick 5522A over the Vacheron Overseas chrono in a heartbeart based on that I didn't like the 4500 blue on my wrist at all.

I thought there are 500 but I am wrong. My 5522 just got 100 pieces worse!

I would get the VC overseas since you have more options on wearing it with bracelet and strap.

Practically speaking,

Which complication would you find more useful?

A travel time complication is more interesting to me, however a patek 5524G (good looking watch) is not a watch I would be comfortable travelling to most places with. As a result, Its usefulness is greatly diminished.

A chronograph may or not be useful to anyone?

I’d get the VC dualtime 7920 instead of the 5524.

Feel like the 42.5mm chrono is small as I could pull off

I feel the OS chrono is a flawed design with the date at 4:30. If it’s a choice betweenthe chrono and the 5524, i’d pick the latter even though I think it’s a subpar effort from Patek. On size generally - the market is swiftly moving towards 36-38mm watches so a 41mm watch will not look small and you’ll get used to it quickly.

Lovely watch the 5524 - my grail and what I would choose.

As another alternative if you like the travel time complication have you thought about the 5326G ?

my first ever VC was the 5500 reverse panda. No regrets. I'm 6'5

Best

Yes! The 7920 (new ones) are substantially better than the outgoing 7900s. So much thinner. They wear so much better.

I owned both until recently. Size will be perfect for you. I traded my VC5500 because I didn’t love the white background of the date window paired with the more silver subdials. I wish the date window background was black instead, more like what AP does on the 26240.

If you go with the Patek, I’d recommend a different strap than the stock brown. I had them put mine on navy calf with off white stitching. Pulls the navy out of the dial better IMO. I’m sure there are a ton of other after market options that would be great too.

Super helpful, thank you!

What size is your wrist? How do they compare size wise on the wrist?

7” flattish. VC is slightly broader but significantly taller. It definitely feels bigger. The Patek fits better for me but you might not notice much difference with your larger wrist. The versatility of the VC strap change options are the wildcard. Nice to switch them up so easily, especially if you’re limiting yourself to a few watches. Let us know which you pick!

Ah this is easy. Great depth rating. Classic. Gorgeous. Legible. Odd duck out for PP which makes it super cool. And accuracy thru the roof.

I have a friend who has the PP. It looks great and he ordered a few extra straps for move versatility in wear. The PP for me.

When changing straps on the 5524g, did you buy gold quick release spring bars or do you use the steel ones that come with aftermarket straps? If gold, any recommendations on sourcing them?

I've always loved the Pilot Time. Was sad when PP stopped making the 37mm version. I have been kinda on the look out for one.
