116500LN back from RSC STORY TIME

What’s going on, fellow collectors? Below you will see my Daytona returned to me from Rolex RSC London. It took about three weeks. I did ask if they would swap my dial to the panda variant, but they denied my request. They said the dial on the steel-ceramic Daytonas isn’t interchangeable. So it’s a fact that it’s region-dependent on if they will switch your dials.

Side note: As I went to pick up my watch, there was a young lady who came to get her watch serviced. The sales associate brought back her watch and said it wasn't their product. She replied that this is my mother’s watch that she passed down to me, which was a gift from my Dad. I felt so sad for her….

She brushed it off but I can tell she was disappointed

That is pretty sad to find out her dad bought a fake watch for his wife and passed down to her. That's pretty awful. But I'm sure it happens. Did you get a glance on the actual watch? Was it easy to tell?

What was wrong with your Daytona that you sent it in for service??

Welcome back black Daytona! I'm sure it feels good to get it back on your wrist. As for the dial swap, the white/black dials are definitely interchangeable and will physically fit. There are people who have done it. However, it seems the two dials are NOT interchangeable per Rolex's rules. With how high of demand the white is, that is totally understandable.

I've never had a watch serviced by RSC before. Out of curiosity, what is inside of the little "Rolex World Service" booklet you have on the table?

Exactly I would want to put my loved ones in a situation like that…. This is fake and your dad was too!

1. I purchased this watch from a grey market dealer. My initial intention was to take it to RSC and let them confirm or deny any of my suspicions. But then I came to the conclusion that if that service is it, it’s like a brand-new watch.

I still believe it’s a regional thing. The book is just a little pamphlet on servicing.

Maybe the Dad didn’t know either…. In this scenario, I would give him the benefit of the doubt..

Yeah, I thought of that too. So many con artists, you never know.

Congrats! Watch looks great. Just out of curiosity, after owning the black did you see yourself wanting the white more? Or did you simply want to try something new and still really like the black? Asking selfishly as someone in the market.

Did you get the pouch to the left hand side of the image included with the service ?

Nice to get the watch back from RSC all factory fresh and 100% verified.

My wife had her 2002 DJ serviced in December at a cost of £650 (inc VAT), so £150 uplift (£800) for a far more complex watch is really not all that bad at all.

Funny you ask this… the goal was to always get the polar dial. I thought I was being clever in getting the black only to swap to the polar later. But the funny thing is the black one is more versatile. I’ve worn the white one and I have to say it’s a pure sports watch. The black is both elegant and a sports watch. I’m sticking with the black for sure! Maybe down the road when my collection is grand I’ll consider getting the panda as a weekend watch.

I think the service price for the Daytona is the max!!! 650 for time and date is too steep. Rolex should reconsider servicing cost across the board

It’s actually dirt cheap compared to lots of other brands

Congrats, thanks for sharing. I avoid servicing like the plague, so it’s nice to see positive data points.

You definitely did the right thing getting the black. While the white is more popular it’s not as slick in my opinion or posh. Someone on here says it looks like a cartoon which is so true. Your one is very very nice.

Good to get watch serviced if you buy used from the gray dealer. I have done this.

On the other note - yes it is natural to feel bad for the lady, and I wouldn't judge her dad to be fake. I know another instance from that generation where someone proudly showed me his vintage looking Rolex DJ which he bought years back from a trip to HK. I thought it was fake after looking at it but I didn't say.
