I didn’t like the 5167. It just didn't have wrist presence. The 5164 felt completely different.

So I’d go with the YM in this case

If we think in terms of robustness, I'm convinced that a Rolex is more robust than a Patek.
As for the two watches, even if the Patek is rare, beautiful and perhaps more coveted than a YM42, it is made of steel, and I find it too expensive compared to a white gold watch.
As for aesthetics, I much prefer a YM42.
Its presence is magnificent, and yet it's a watch that doesn't seem to be much appreciated by Rolex afficionados.

Love the aquanaut.
Just know that they keep terrible time and are super expensive to service. Putting that aside, it’s really about which watch speaks to you and you love on your wrist.

for a 3 hand watch with a date PP is the same as rolex when it comes to service. A PP properly tuned will have be very accurate.

I know this thread is old, but if I'm buying a sports watch it is Rolex all day for me. Patek are more about complications and dress pieces at least in my opinion

PATEK is for those who think its "best"
Rolex is for those who wear the watch..

A sporty Patek with a aquatic name that you can wear in water activity? No, thank you.

It takes milage in this hobby to understand that.

I prefer the thinner profile and incredible legibility of the 5167.

Both can be worn as daily’s.

You will feel underwhelmed by the 5167 heft compared to the PM YM… you are going to have to get over that.

Agree. Most of my Pateks are very accurate.

Get the 5167 (if at retail), sell it at grey and get the YM white gold at grey (below retail).

So: 5167 (about US$24K at retail), sell at grey (say US$45K-52K to grey dealer - that's probably what a dealer can do for you) and get YM at grey (US$28K). Net, you pay between 8K to nothing in this deal with a YM white gold in your collection.

The big IF is 5167 at retail. Honestly, 5167 at retail probably means you have spent 50-100K at the AD for lower than retail purchases beforehand.

Team PATEK on this one, I love Rolex my favorite brand. But as a watch enthusiast, Patek is something else.

Cheers,

Buy the Aquanaut at retail, sell it, and buy the YM with the profits. Simple

This ^^

The 5167a is light and slim - the YM has weight to it, helped by the OF bracelet, but definitely a vastly heavier watch.

The 5167 has supreme legibility too.

Both are lovely watches, it really comes down to taste. Assume you've decided No to a VC Overseas too?

The other aspect I have considered previously is - a lot of the sport Rolex refs have a similar look. If you already have a GMT and/or Sub, then add a YM, you will end up with less variety than you would adding a 5167.

I like Rolex more for daily use.
Patek feels like it is only for special occasions.
