Correct outer box for 1979 1655?
Greetings I'm trying to get a correct outer box for my 1979 Exp II 1655 and have done a bit of searching.
I found a Moon Crater box FS, but the time it was used may have been after 1980? I appreciate your help. I've searched archives here and elsewhere. |

Depends where it was originally sold. My 1979 U.S.-sold Daytona came with a Bufkor box set, with the outer box in a gold color with a green lid.

It was from South Africa. I guess I could just roll with what I found.

A moon crater box with the slotted watch holder could work for 1979. I'm not sure how it is being dated as 1979, but, if you are basing your assumption on it being from 1979 due to information found on the dating tables found at various web sites, it was probably sold during the early 1980s.

Yes as learned's here have said, S.Africa a slotted felt moon crater double box would be correct, and might/would be the cheapest option too c £100 in UK .
There are two crater style outer box sizes and inner box sizes btw, and on the largest there is also two types of box lids - one with a slot in the outer top lid for docs and a plain lid too. (Small right, large pocket/indented left first photo, most common large plain lid centre) The matte green Atlas box 2 photo, same size as the small crater btw (usually see below* !!) also circa that era and quite cheap about same as a crater in UK. *Be careful though, on the Atlas. I was slapdash once, and bought one for £50 from small eBay photo of outer box....when it turned up it was gigantic, about a foot across and high, buckled brown leather inner box as was for high value precious metal stuff. Btw - Dealers often grabbed old stock from their box cupboard , so a bit of a lottery. I have also seen a full set Spanish 1016 from 1981 in a seahorse box photo 3 - must have been hanging around at dealer! Forget that though they are £300-400 easily
