Try both on. I bet one will grab you as the winner. For what it's worth I love the no date. Something about it just looks perfect to me.

If you think it will be one and only, get the date. If the first of many which you will add a date option, then no date.

It's your wrist and your watch, so see what works for you.
As for me, I love the perfect symmetry and classic look of the no date. ![]() |

My no date kind of annoys me to wear because it’s not there. It does look very clean and symmetrical though.

For me both the Submariner Date and No Date are fantastic choices. If I were in your shoes, I’d probably lean towards the Submariner Date.

Entirely up to you. If you are already obsessed or routinely need to know, get a date watch. Otherwise buy something cool.

Both are great looking watches. Take a look and try on both in person and see which you like better. For me personally, I like the date since I find it useful.

![]() But also kinda. I think the sub can be a very pure look in a watch. Very symmetrical with just enough asymmetry in the seconds portion of the bezel to offset it. It's really a beautiful design. I don't mind the cyclops so much on other watches but I prefer the sub in it's original incarnation. |

I’m team no date because of the clean look and the fact that I don’t worry about what day it is anymore. I also have a date LV but I like the no date more nowadays .
They are both great. The no date is the original OG. A true classic. I was at the grocery store today and the manager complemented me on my no date and we talked watches for a bit, always good to meet watch people in the wild. Congrats and welcome to TRF. Cheers, |

Gotta have both ;)
Try both on. Years ago when I was looking at my first ceramic sub, I gravitated quite a bit toward the no-date 114060. No wrong answer ![]()

Rolex date, something so iconic about it
If you have others with dates then no date is fine but a 1 and only rolex.needs the cyclops |

Also agree with the argument if it's one and done get the date otherwise no date....not sure if it makes a difference but in my country there is a good $1400 difference between both references also.....maybe something worth considering....

I prefer no date. Plus, I have enough watches with the date function anyway. But my first two watches were a Submariner and Speedmaster. It was sort of nice not having any watches with a date function back then.

If you want it to be noticed, I think the SubDate is more recognizable as a Rolex. As a one and only watch, the date is very useful. The Sub may actually wear a little bigger because of the cleaner dial. If you have a small wrist that may be a factor for you. If you want the original and more limited production watch, the Sub is the way to go.

Welcome to the forum
![]() I much prefer the simplicity of the Submariner. It’s also the only Rolex professional aside from the Air King, that in only comes one iteration, making it kind of special in my mind ![]() |

I think the date detracts slightly from the appearance of the watch. I am definately biased as I own 10 watches and zero date functions among them.
So yes, if you frequently struggle to know what day it is then get the one with that big glass wart on it. |

I have always preferred the "no date" (5513 and 14060) But if you choose the new ceramics I prefer the "Date"

Awesome choice. I absolutely love my no date because it looks clean and not too busy. I also love it because I see more dates than no dates in the wild and I love having stuff that I don’t see too much of out there. And it’s cheaper :-)

I prefer the date. To me, it makes it more like a rolex sub. My personal opinion.
I had a buddy of mine that had a sub date for a decade, and he scoffed at the non-date ones while he owned one. About 6 months ago, he decided to get a new sub and then decided that the non-date was way better than the date sub lol. So bottom line is, it's up to you and your personal tastes. I will always be buying the date one though personally. |

I prefer the ND version. The balance of the dial is great.
