ND Sub is essentially the "perfect" watch design. The Sub is such a ubiquitous watch, the No Date is slightly less common so that's a plus.

I would base it on your needs. How often do you need to know the date? I personally do not need to know the date number all that often.

Depends. If you plan to add more later, I'd get a no-date. If this is going to be your "one and only", I'd get the date version.

That was my logic when I made my first Rolex purchase back in '12. I went with a ND knowing I was going to add a polar ExII eventually. That decision has survived a couple collection purges.

If going Sub Date, LV is the one.
Otherwise, 124060 all day.

I think this is good advice. I was offered my choice, I chose the no date because I had a GMT, YM40, and many other date watches in the collection.

I prefer the no date aesthetic more, but honestly it drives me crazy not having a date function after having one on my watches as far as I can recall. 16600 for me. I really like the date function with no cyclops.

I would also add see what your AD can get you in a realistic time frame. The date apparently is more requested, but Rolex makes less no dates. I read that they actually make more LVs than no dates.

Both great choices. I think it comes down to whether or not you prefer a Sub with some color or are going for the all black.

For me I’ve got to have the date. Any watch without a date is a deal breaker for me.

It all depends on what you really love, for something complete, I will go with date, but for a first watch I will go with ND. And again what is your AD wiling to offer you.

I like the symmetry of the no date. never used the date function on any watch. can you imagine yourself wondering what's today, and looking at your watch?

In a collection, Sub. One and done, Sub-date

No date. The only watch Rolex only has in their catalogue that is only offered in one material, dial and bezel colour.

The ND looks cleaner. That being said, I personally check the date more often than the time, so I'd have to go for the date.

Date or no date….

I went with date

I’ve got a few ‘no date’ watches and find them just fine, but the Sub is probably my most worn daily and I find the date function useful.

I used to only buy watches with a date.
The past couple of years 90% of my purchases have been ND
I like the cleaner simple dial of a ND.
You can't go wrong with either.

I prefer the no date but I have several watches with a date. I like the look of the no date but the functionality of the date. I think the date might be the safest choice as your first.

No date for a black Sub!! 124060 is flawless.

If you want to add a date, (as mentioned previously) get an LV!

Since this will be your "first" Rolex, buy the Sub not the Sub date. Add Rolex references with a date complication in your future purchases.

I'd suggest the SD4k, 116600. You get best of both worlds.
