My wife got black for me as a gift 4 years after my first purchase at that AD, which is when I put it on my desired watch list. I was boutique’s first customer.

If I remember correctly you got 2 black ones from the same AD. Have you asked for the white?

Honestly I don’t know how long exactly I waited but I know when I got my very first Rolex (GMT Master ii) from my SA I asked if it’s possible for a humble everyday enthusiast to get a Panda Daytona. That was in 2018. Since then I got a BB58, matching mint green DJs for our 15 yr anniversary and a couple pairs of earrings for my wife (low spend).

Every time I would buy something I would ask how’s it going for Daytona’s lately? So if I were to guess, I “officially” expressed interest about 6 years ago.
I love our AD and I’ve been working with the same SA since the beginning (she’s amazing).

I do believe most ADs want to get you what you want if you’re local to them. If you’re moving around all the time or just passing through ADs I think it would be very difficult or impossible to get what you want.

I have been reaching out to few ADs in area, calling/texting/emailing for years, no luck.

Finally, I got a chance to speak to sales people at 2 different ADs, great conversation and both had similar thing to say - store manager decides who gets it, period.
At first AD, store was part of casino, and they were strictly instructed those pieces are reserved for ‘whales’, big $$ gamblers.

At other AD, and I think this is more applicable across the board, those are offered to VIPs with recent large spends in store or potential future one, whichever store manager decide is more important for their future of business.
There are real lists and there fake ones too, an AD might receive 8 SS Daytonas per year (4 of each dial color) and he has 20 vip clients (& 80 normal clients) that are in list for one, will he be able to satisfy all his customers? No, so some might wait up to 12 months and other will wait longer depends where you are in the food chain ( spend histor, status, relationship history). The issue with SS Daytons not just the ADs but also Rolex, since production numbers are limited compared to other models, creating some sort of scarcity.

Great example and explanation here.

ADs usually offer SS Daytonas to their top VIPs based on number of watches they get. Top of the VIP list changes too based on spending habit and other factors.

If you do not get a call within a year, I’d say likelihood of getting one is extremely low.

Not necessarily, it depends on the dial color, size of the AD in terms of allocations they get and size of their clients base, so each one might have a different mileage. I would say up to 24 months for vips, 24 to 60 months to other long time customers with smaller purchase history.

6 weeks for the white dial in early 2018. Was lucky even then as the BLNR took 7 months in the same year.

My 11 series Panda took about 6 months. I requested the 12 series black dial about 5 months ago, so we'll see. My spend is in the 6 figures over a 10 year span with my AD, only watches.. I also do not believe in lists. AD's will sell to their best clients first regardless of how many people are waiting on a "list".

1 day.

There is context, however. I walked into my local AD (with no spend history mind you) and introduced myself. The date was Thursday, March 12th 2020. Markets had shed 30% or so and a couple wealthy people I knew had sold completely and gone to cash. I told the SA I wanted a SS Daytona and had the money and if they were calling people on their list and they were declining I wouldn't say no if they called me.

I had taken the next day off work and was out shopping with my wife and planning on going to lunch when the SA called me and said they had a black dial Daytona and it was mine if I could be there within 2 hours. Needless to say I was there in 30 minutes. Went to Olive Garden after.

Lockdowns started on Monday the 16th, my company went remote the same day, and I didn't eat in a sit down restaurant for over a year.

One of my first posts here was the incoming for this watch.

I had sent my watch out for service, and when it returned I told the boutique manager that I was interested in trading it for two white Daytonas. The PM watch was one my father had for a while, but gave to my brother and me, so we decided to try to swap it for two pieces so we would each have something. The manager pushed back and said they could only offer one white and one black face. After I told him that wasn't an option, he called the owner of the store to discuss. About ten minutes later, he came back and handed me a white Daytona and said I could pick up the second one in three weeks. My family had been good customers of this store for a while, but if I didn't have the watch to trade that I did, there is no way I would have been able to get a Daytona, let alone two.
It's interesting that you say that. I want a DD40, and my SS Daytona is nearly 5 years old now. I have wondered if my AD would bite on selling me a DD40 YG and a white dial Daytona in the same transaction if I traded in my existing black dial Daytona. They would of course get a watch that they can then CPO for well over retail.

It all depends on what they would do for me. I would not want to pay full retail X2 plus my Daytona, but neither do I expect the world.

3 years for my white Daytona (got the call Feb of 2023). Purchase history was a SD43, Speedy Sapphire Sandwich, and a Cellini Moonphase. Pretty lucky compared to some, but sadly this jeweler is no longer an AD.
